About The Position

Acutronic is looking for an Electrical Engineer IV to join our Austin, TX location. The engineer in this role will have broad hands-on responsibility and ownership of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from proposal through qualification testing and production support. The incumbent will have significant influence on the development of the product line and the advancement of Acutronic Aerospace Components in the marketplace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university, required.
  • At least twelve years of relevant hardware experience designing and developing: Motor controls and electromechanical control systems, Power conditioning and distribution systems (2+kW), Systems with common aerospace communication interfaces (RS-485/RS-422, CAN, etc.), Real-time systems.
  • Experience with navigating firmware in embedded electronic systems.
  • Experience with failure investigation and formal RCCA activities.
  • Experience with safety and reliability assessment (MTBF/FTA, etc.).
  • Experience with aerospace configuration management and control.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Prior experience working in an aerospace quality control (AS9100) and manufacturing environment, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed electrical design and development of embedded control systems in support of Acutronic product lines: Actuation Systems, Turbo Generators, Power Generation, Conversion, and Distribution, Micro-thrust Turbines.
  • Support proposal efforts in a fast-paced aerospace environment by assessing customer system level requirements, developing derived requirements, producing requirements compliance matrix, generating engineering models of proposed designs with substantiating analysis, contributing to estimating costs, and contributing to the development of project schedules.
  • Develop detailed system performance models using MATLAB/SIMULINK (or equivalent) and allocate system requirements to components and subsystems.
  • Architect embedded electronic systems based on end item and derived requirements in support of Acutronic product lines: Actuation Systems, Turbo Generators, Power Generation, Conversion, and Distribution, Micro-thrust Turbines.
  • Mentor more junior engineers on the electronic systems team.
  • Participate in activities that support the growth and development of the electronic systems team including standardization of design activities, workflows, reviews, and knowledge transfer.
  • Design and develop electronic hardware cradle to grave, including component selection, schematic capture, simulation, PCB/A layout, and all supporting analyses for Brushless DC Motor control (Trap, FOC) using Real-time MCU/DSP technology, power electronics for motor control, active rectification, DC-DC conversion, and distribution, integration of various sensors used in closed loop control systems (resolver, VDT, pressure, current, HED), and analog front end conditioning for various sensors.
  • Assist in designing and developing firmware and software to support the systems/technologies mentioned above.
  • Perform hands-on bring up, integration, and troubleshooting of embedded control and power generation systems.
  • Design and develop test stands, fixtures, and procedures for the validation/verification of embedded electronics.
  • Perform validation and verification of product requirements.
  • Prepare documentation in support of customer and internal deliverables (reports, presentations).
  • Perform in-depth analysis of complex embedded electronic systems and prepare documentation in support of communicating context and results of analysis.
