About The Position

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions, crucial for new semiconductor chips and advanced displays. The equipment we create and service is essential for advancing AI and accelerating the commercialization of next-generation semiconductor chips. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team and push the boundaries of materials science and engineering. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, modifying, and troubleshooting electrical or electronic engineering assemblies, layouts, schematics, and drawings. You will perform engineering analysis, generate test reports, develop innovative solutions, and create documentation for product releases. Additionally, you will coordinate the procurement and assembly of components, identify sources of critical parts, and resolve technical issues to ensure peak performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical architecture, design, integration, and validation of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Define system requirements and develop electrical designs that meet performance, safety, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability objectives.
  • Design AC/DC power distribution systems, including load analysis, circuit protection, grounding/bonding, power sequencing, and control architectures.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, system block diagrams, I/O diagrams, wiring diagrams, and interface documentation.
  • Design and specify cable assemblies, wire harnesses, connectors, and routing solutions, including conductor sizing, shielding, strain relief, EMI/EMC considerations, serviceability, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Develop electrical interfaces for sensors, actuators, motion control systems, EtherCAT devices, industrial Ethernet networks, safety controllers, and field I/O.
  • Define, document, and validate safety interlocks, emergency stop (E-stop) circuits, fault detection, equipment protection schemes, and safe-state recovery strategies.
  • Create and maintain electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs), cable/harness documentation, and manufacturing release packages.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable industry standards and codes, including NEC, NFPA 79, SEMI standards, UL, and CE requirements, as applicable.
  • Support prototype builds, system integration, verification testing, and new product bring-up activities.
  • Perform hands-on electrical troubleshooting and root cause analysis of power distribution, controls, networking, and field devices using oscilloscopes, DMMs, power analyzers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, controls, manufacturing, and field service teams to resolve design and integration issues.
  • Work with suppliers to select, qualify, and implement electrical components, cable assemblies, EtherCAT devices, industrial networking hardware, and subsystem equipment.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and on-site troubleshooting of deployed systems.
