About The Position

CLP Engineering (CLPE) is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer IV- Substation Design with a PE license and 8+ years of engineering/utility Industry experience to join their growing engineering team in Corona. Requirements

  • BS degree, Electrical Engineering, from accredited university with emphasis in power systems required.
  • PE License required.
  • Minimum of eight (8+) years of work experience in the electric utility industry.
  • Expert knowledge with medium voltage electrical substations and distribution system required.
  • Expert with power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination required.
  • Experienced in blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services required.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain construction project schedules in Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with ETAP or similar software.
  • Must be a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems.
  • Develop concept design alternatives, engineering calculations, analysis, and engineering estimates for small-scale system improvement projects for substations and distribution systems.
  • Develop/review complex electrical system models and validate various system study findings/recommendations.
  • Develop electrical specifications for major electrical apparatus.
  • Create system model for large-scale power system in ETAP (or similar software) and perform various power system analysis/studies.
  • Develop bill of material and technical specifications for various electrical projects.
  • Schedule and attend field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to understand and determine project requirements.
  • Perform field take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation.
  • Possess and maintain broad and in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power distribution systems.
  • Update and maintain GIS database for large-scale electrical distribution systems.
  • Perform site surveys for major upgrade projects, develop concept design, and present the design to CLPE Management and the customer.
  • Prepare cost estimates for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects.
  • Keep up to date with utility industry standards and codes.
  • Enforce and maintain all applicable standards and codes for our O&M, replacement/renewable and new installations.
  • Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, system loading scenarios and assist crew to implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution system.
  • Participate in estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist construction personnel throughout the project life cycle in tracking and understanding the basis of cost estimate.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance and support to help them grow in their professional careers.
  • Preparation of project construction schedules.
  • Submission of request for information to clients.
  • Act as primary point of contact for projects and facilitating design/review process.
  • Coordinate meetings, scheduling updates, submitting deliverables, and addressing outstanding open items as requested by clients.
