About The Position

They design, build, and operate an autonomous logistics system, making deliveries globally. The Electrical Engineering team is central to Zipline's flight and ground systems, responsible for designing, building, and testing all electronics and software. They work cross-functionally to ensure platforms operate safely and effectively in challenging environments. The role involves engineering a significant portion of the system in-house to enhance reliability for future growth. The team seeks engineers who can reduce risk, improve reliability, and are comfortable working across different domains, collaborating in small groups, and communicating technical concepts clearly. Successful candidates will be strong individual contributors with a solid grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals, capable of defining requirements, developing creative solutions, and validating their work through rigorous testing.

Requirements

  • Must have completed at least the second year of Undergraduate studies. Masters and PhD students are also eligible.
  • Designed and tested a custom circuit board.
  • Worked on a project (in or out of school) that moved under its own power (e.g., plane, car, boat, quadcopter, rocket, balloon, submarine, rover).
  • Collaborated on the design and testing of custom circuit boards and self-powered projects as part of a group.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Robotics/Automation: Prior exposure to robotics systems, automation, or sensor data (through coursework, projects, or clubs).
  • Software Development: Exposure to object-oriented programming (e.g., C++ or Java).
  • Cloud Computing/Big Data Tools: Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) or big data tools (Spark, Hadoop).

Responsibilities

  • Prototyping new versions of battery charging electronics to meet harsher environmental requirements.
  • Architecting ground support electronics to assist air vehicles with take-off and landing.
  • Developing and deploying test equipment such as End-of-Line (EOL) testers for design validation and production.
  • Supporting design validation campaigns to ensure avionics products meet design and reliability requirements.
  • Conducting root cause investigations for product issues identified in testing, flight, or field operations.
