About The Position

Veranex is offering paid internship opportunities within its Product Design & Engineering Business Unit at its Minneapolis, Providence, and Raleigh locations. The Electrical Engineering Intern will contribute to meaningful projects supporting client and business objectives while gaining hands-on experience across the medical device development lifecycle. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional experts, supporting the development of next-generation healthcare technologies and building essential technical, analytical, and professional skills. Interns are integrated into project teams, participating in internal and client-facing meetings, gaining exposure to consulting, product development, and collaborative problem-solving. Through mentorship, teamwork, lunch-and-learn sessions, and networking, interns will gain insight into the processes and innovations driving the future of healthcare. This role is for students who have completed at least two years of study toward a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, and who are eager to apply their knowledge in a fast-paced consulting environment. The ideal candidate is an innovative, well-organized self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for advancing healthcare technology and improving patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related Bachelor's degree program.
  • Has completed 2-4 years of college-level coursework and is on track to earn a bachelor’s degree in the field.
  • Basic knowledge of circuit design, common digital interfaces, analog circuit design, simulation, and debug.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Kicad or Altium.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform a wide range of activities and do so under timelines.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Any additional experience outside of academics with complex, electro-mechanical products is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain day-to-day communication with program managers and all appropriate program team members.
  • Manage their own time and activities to meet project milestones.
  • Assist in the design and development of complex electro-mechanical medical devices and equipment.
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and design assurance engineers to develop technologies and designs.
  • Develop and execute prototype testing plans and protocols.
  • Execute PCBA and system level tests with proper documentation.
  • Do schematic and layout for small PCBAs in Altium.
  • Assist in compliance with medical device regulations and standards.
  • PCBA or electrical component analysis to requirements and selection.
  • Rework of PCBAs and cables.
