  • Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) development.
  • FPGA or RTL coding, particularly for timing control, sensor interfaces, or signal processing.
  • Intrinsic Safety design.
  • Optical sensors, transducers, infrared (IR), or similar sensing technologies.
  • Hands-on use of laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Product development from requirements through design, verification/validation, and manufacturing transfer.
  • Portable instrumentation or gas-sensing technologies.
  • Knowledge of emerging electronic components and technologies relevant to gas sensing and portable instrumentation.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring engineers and/or technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded and real-time systems using C, C++, Python, and/or MATLAB.
  • Apply electrical engineering principles across analog, digital, power, and embedded firmware systems.
  • Design and support low-power electronics for portable, handheld instruments, including wired and wireless connectivity.
  • Lead or contribute to electronics architecture and design, including schematics, PCB layouts, board bring-up, design reviews, and product release support.
  • Guide local and remote PCB designers by establishing clear layout requirements and constraints, including: Board stack-up, Component placement, Grounding, Power routing, High-speed routing, Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Develop and troubleshoot embedded firmware and real-time systems.
  • Work within modern engineering development processes using tools such as GitHub, Jira, and Visual Studio.
  • Implement power converter and control system simulations using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and PSpice.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, firmware, and system-level problems using a structured, root-cause approach.
  • Evaluate design tradeoffs involving cost, performance, reliability, manufacturability, and schedule.
  • Translate customer and field needs into engineering requirements and practical technical solutions.
  • Evaluate prototypes and designs and recommend improvements.
  • Support product development through key phases including: Hardware requirements definition, Research and development design, Verification and validation, Test planning and execution, Manufacturing design transfer, Product release and sustaining engineering.
