About The Position

The Kavli Institute seeks an Electrical Engineer to assist in the design, layout, fabrication, testing, operations, and maintenance of astrophysics research instrumentation and related ground support equipment for ground- and space-based observatories and associated technology development. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and research scientists, daily tasks may range from technical documentation review and generation; vendor selection, communication, and part procurement; circuit board design and layout; soldering and assembly; firmware programming; troubleshooting of boards and related hardware; verification testing; field installation and commissioning; and long-term maintenance and operations support. A successful candidate will have the ability to work independently for engineering tasks and within a multidisciplinary, multicultural team for project support, alongside an eagerness for continuous learning and development of new skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Five years of experience in a relevant field
  • Experience with independent design and layout, simulation, and implementation of analog, digital, and power system electronics
  • Experience with schematic design and layout software
  • Demonstrated skill in complex circuit board and electronic system testing and troubleshooting
  • Ability to develop technical requirements, read data sheets, select components, and identify potential vendors for parts acquisition
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive information using discretion and individual judgement
