About The Position

The Electrical Engineer II – Engineering Change Leader works within Engineering Data Management (EDM) and coordinates and leads Engineering Changes for complex scientific instrumentation throughout the sustaining product lifecycle. The role partners with Operations Engineering, R&D, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Global Technical Service, and other stakeholders to evaluate, execute, and implement product changes. The position combines Engineering Change Management leadership with electrical engineering and technical product documentation expertise. The successful candidate understands electrical and electromechanical designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, cables and harnesses, PCB/PCBA documentation, bills of material (BOMs), and related technical product documentation (TPD). The Change Leader coordinates Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), assesses scope and impact, establishes priorities, coordinates technical and business input, and drives approved changes through implementation. The role is based on-site in Hillsboro, Oregon, with a standard Monday–Friday schedule and domestic and international travel as required, up to 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant electrical design and engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, product engineering, sustaining engineering, engineering change management, or a related high-technology manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical engineering documentation and design practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cables and harnesses, PCB/PCBA documentation, electrical assemblies, and BOMs.
  • Experience with ECRs, ECOs, configuration/change control, or sustaining product engineering.
  • Ability to interpret engineering redlines and technical requirements and assess whether resulting documentation accurately implements the intended change.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, components, manufacturing processes, and design-for-manufacturability considerations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, service, and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional work, resolve ambiguity, establish priorities, and drive complex technical activities to completion without direct authority over all participants.
  • Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required, up to 25%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management/Product Data Management systems; Teamcenter experience is preferred.
  • Experience with complex electromechanical products, capital equipment, semiconductor equipment, analytical instrumentation, or scientific instrumentation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with scanning electron microscopes (SEM), transmission electron microscopes (TEM), focused ion beam systems, or related electron microscopy products is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ECRs and ECOs for assigned products and product lines in accordance with the established Engineering Change process.
  • Evaluate proposed changes for technical feasibility, scope, risk, product and manufacturing impact, urgency, implementation requirements, and cross-functional dependencies.
  • Partner with electrical engineers and technical subject matter experts to translate proposed designs, engineering markups or redlines, and requirements into complete, executable Engineering Changes.
  • Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable and harness documentation, PCB/PCBA documentation, BOM structures, and other TPD to understand proposed and implemented product changes.
  • Technically review electrical TPD changes within areas of competency and ensure implemented documentation accurately reflects approved Engineering Changes.
  • Apply electrical engineering practices, electrical design, component selection, and manufacturing methods when evaluating and reviewing electrical and electromechanical product changes.
  • Coordinate technical reviews by mechanical, software, systems, safety, service, quality, and other subject matter experts when changes require expertise beyond the Change Leader’s competency.
  • Perform or coordinate product structure and Where Used impact analysis to identify affected parts, assemblies, documentation, products, and sites.
  • Coordinate development and approval of implementation plans with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead cross-functional resolution of complex Engineering Change issues while maintaining clear ownership, communication, and accountability.
  • Work with Engineering Data Management resources responsible for electrical documentation, BOM, and other documentation updates, and support effective technical review of completed work.
  • Monitor Engineering Change work in process, priorities, milestones, and cycle time for assigned product lines.
  • Support continuous improvement of Engineering Change processes, tools, and interfaces across North American and global teams.
  • Develop strong working knowledge of assigned products and become a trusted Engineering Change partner to the engineering teams supporting those products.
