About The Position

This position is in DLB’s Mission Critical Department and focuses primarily on hyperscale data centers and related mission critical facilities. The Electrical Engineer II will have the opportunity to work with and collaborate with senior design staff to advance their fire alarm system design skills. They will learn, through hands-on application, how to design a wide variety of mission critical projects. This person will work as part of the Engineering Team and interact closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, including air sampling smoke detection systems (VESDA), develop and edit project specifications, and assist in the construction administration process. The Electrical Engineer II will receive general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. May work independently, consistently exercising discretion and independent judgment on individual work, or may work under immediate supervision. May serve as trade lead on routine projects of limited scope. The Electrical Engineer II will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Requirements

Knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical systems found in buildings including basic circuiting and life safety systems
Knowledge of codes and specifications for the design of fire alarm systems including NFPA 72, National Electric Code, Life Safety and Building Codes
Skilled at producing drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD and Revit
Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management
Skilled in performing code analysis including local requirements, selection of equipment, wiring, etc. to meet code requirements
Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.
Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace
Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)
Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact
Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision
Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines
Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Bachelor’s degree in electrical from ABET accredited institution, with a sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals
Minimum of three years of electrical engineering / fire alarm design experience

Responsibilities

Assist in Production of Electrical Engineering / Fire Alarm System Documents (50%)
Perform intermediate to advanced engineering work as directed
Perform intermediate to advanced fire alarm design tasks under a senior engineer’s supervision
Perform intermediate to advanced computations and analysis for fire alarm systems
Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings, coordinate with other disciplines, and clearly communicate through graphics / visual aids
Specify fire alarm system components and holistically protect mission critical facilities
Assist in Pre-Construction Activities (15%)
Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports of findings
Collect data and other information for construction documents
Prepare project design and construction documents
Basic editing and writing of project specifications
Assist in Construction Activities (25%)
Work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team
Review shop drawings and submittals
Review and respond to RFIs
Review and complete punch lists and project close out documents
Reporting (10%)
Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
Update and maintain shop drawing and RFI log
Manage personal hours using company tools
