About The Position

VoltAir is an award-winning consulting engineering firm seeking an Electrical Engineer I to apply professional and technical expertise to designing electrical engineering concepts and options that align with the owner’s vision for each project. This individual should have a solid understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents involved. The role involves designing electrical systems for commercial buildings, including lighting, power distribution, emergency generation, fire alarm, and security systems. The engineer will also be responsible for cost-effective system layouts, specifications, code compliance, BIM drawing preparation, coordination with other disciplines, and construction administration tasks. Maintaining excellent business relationships with clients, partners, and code officials is crucial. The position also includes supporting the mentoring of less experienced designers.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and based in Orlando, Florida
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience in electrical engineering design of commercial buildings preferably in aviation, higher education, healthcare, hospitality, entertainment, or governmental facilities
  • At least 1 year of experience coordinating with multi-discipline engineering teams
  • Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national codes, including other aspects of laws, regulations, and potential liabilities affecting the practice of engineering
  • Revit MEP proficiency required, and familiarity with other engineering software programs
  • Highly proficient technical/computer skills including Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Work, Excel), internet and web applications
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written, or in graphic form
  • Ability to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications when the company serves as the prime professional
  • Must have the technical knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively evaluate various electrical engineering options for configuration of equipment and components
  • Experienced with cost containment and reduction approaches
  • Meets deadlines, works independently or as part of a team, accountable, maintains focus on set objectives and goals
  • Excellent attention to detail and thoroughness in deliverables and communications, maintains high-quality standards, and good follow-up skills
  • Ethical, honest, and accountable; maintains confidentiality, handles sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Uses resources efficiently, strives to reduce cost
  • Monitors status of projects, thoroughly deals with project details, delivers clear, accurate depiction of status

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or Engineer in Training (EIT), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Determine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create the electrical system designs including lighting, power distribution, emergency generation systems, fire alarm, security, or other electrical systems
  • Determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, and verify code compliance of the system designs
  • Preparation and layout of BIM drawings and coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design phase, design development phase, permitting phase, and construction documents phase
  • Perform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, shop drawing review, and preparation of punch lists
  • Define appropriate project scope and ensure it is accurately reflected in the contract documents.
  • Proactively manage any possible scope of work variances to ensure client satisfaction and that projects stay on track
  • Maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items
  • Support with mentoring more inexperienced electrical designers
  • Miscellaneous duties, as assigned
