READING BAKERY SYSTEMS•South Heidelberg Township, PA
•Onsite

About The Position

Reading Thermal Systems (RTS), part of Reading Bakery Systems, is seeking an early-career Electrical Engineer I to support the manufacture, testing, calibration, and improvement of thermal measurement products, including the SCORPION® data logging system. These products measure temperature, heat flux, air velocity, and humidity. The engineer will work alongside experienced engineering and manufacturing personnel and help ensure products meet established quality and performance requirements. The role is suited to an electrical engineering graduate interested in hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and practical problem-solving. Approximately 50% of the role is outgoing quality assurance, testing finished products before shipment, documenting findings, and verifying compliance with established procedures. Approximately 25% is calibration support for customer data loggers and sensors returned for service. The remaining responsibilities include investigating production issues, developing and maintaining technical documentation, helping develop and validate production test systems and calibration procedures, conducting engineering tests, supporting prototypes as they transition to manufacturing, assisting with engineering changes, reviewing production and field data, and supporting assembly, repair, and manufacturing as needed. The position is based at the Science & Innovation Center in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. It is full-time, on the day/first shift, with up to 10% travel. Overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel may be required. Work may take place in production baking environments with high temperatures, humidity, noise, and other manufacturing hazards; appropriate personal protective equipment is required. Physical demands include regularly lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Foundational knowledge of circuits, printed circuit boards, microprocessors, C programming, and CAD.
  • Hands-on testing and troubleshooting experience from coursework, laboratory work, projects, internships, or employment.
  • Familiarity with hardware and software interfaces used in test equipment or measurement systems.
  • Interest in sensors, instrumentation, physics, and thermal measurement.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, engineering drawings, and technical instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to handle small components and perform fine-pitch soldering and rework.
  • Willingness to learn, follow established procedures, and work collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with calibration, embedded firmware, data acquisition, thermal systems, or production fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Test finished products before shipment, document findings, and verify compliance with established procedures.
  • Calibrate customer data loggers and sensors returned for service.
  • Investigate production issues and troubleshoot circuitry, components, firmware, and measurement systems with guidance from experienced engineering staff.
  • Create and update test specifications, work instructions, manufacturing records, and training materials.
  • Help develop, build, and validate production test systems, fixtures, and calibration procedures.
  • Conduct engineering tests and analyze product accuracy, reliability, and performance.
  • Support the transition of prototypes into repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Assist with component substitutions and engineering changes.
  • Review production and field data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support product assembly, repair, and manufacturing activities as needed.
