About The Position

ThayerMahan, a leader and a fast-growing, mission-focused, innovative technology company in the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) space is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer. At ThayerMahan we pride ourselves on fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous growth. The Engineering Group is responsible for our fleet or unmanned systems and buoys. We work on the design and integration of sensors, propulsion, control, and communication systems, as well as all preventative and corrective maintenance for the platforms and sensors. This position will work with the development team to test new concepts and incorporate them into existing products. As a hands-on leader, you will be taking personal responsibility for design projects while guiding the efforts of others. This is a Full Time position based in Groton, CT. About the Role This role will play a critical role in the design, development, and integration of electrical and embedded systems for ThayerMahan’s fleet of unmanned systems and buoys. This position will involve working on sensor integration, propulsion, control, and communication systems, as well as performing troubleshooting and maintenance to ensure reliability in maritime environments. This is a full-time position based in Groton, CT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in electrical or embedded system
  • Ability to develop and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in maritime environments, including underwater electronics and sensor integration.
  • Knowledge of sonar, acoustics, and marine robotics
  • Experience developing custom PCBs to optimize and integrate off-the-shelf
  • Hands-on experience with waterproofing electrical systems for underwater
  • Experience using PDM software similar to Autodesk Vault and
  • Willingness to participate in field deployments, including short-duration trips at
  • Experience designing and integrating serial communication protocols (CAN, RS485, Ethernet, I2C, SPI).
  • Knowledge of power monitoring, renewable energy sources, and energy-efficient

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement electronic and embedded systems for purpose-built marine equipment and robotics.
  • Design and integrate sensors and payloads into unmanned maritime
  • Utilize CAD, CAE, and simulation tools for circuit design, system modeling, and performance
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with equipment and sensors in both field and lab
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and test real-time signal processing and sensor data analysis software.
  • Develop technical documentation, build guides, and wiring
  • Apply research principles and standard laboratory instrumentation to engineering design efforts.
  • Develop, calibrate, and test new sensor and signal processing designs, ensuring functionality in harsh marine environments.
  • Participate in field deployments, assist with equipment setup, data collection, and system testing.
