About The Position

The Failure Analysis Lab (FAL) located in McKinney, Texas, promotes process and product improvement through failure analysis and analytical services. Our team consists of a staff of engineers and scientists with varied backgrounds (EE, ME, Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, etc.) and broad experience. Team members provide support to Raytheon programs, suppliers, and end users by conducting thorough investigations of failure events and supporting a variety of data collection activities to address the changing needs of the electronics and defense industries. This is an onsite role in McKinney, TX. The posted requisition is for a member of Failure Analysis Lab, which is primarily responsible for root cause failure analysis of Raytheon products including characterizing failures of electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems, as well as manufacturing materials. Specific responsibilities include diagnosing failures at the component and/or assembly level using electrical characterization techniques, X-ray analysis, chemical/mechanical deprocessing methodologies, micro-section analysis, etc. It is desired that the candidate possesses some knowledge of the theory and operation of various analytical tools including optical microscopes, real-time X-ray, scanning electron microscopes, analytical chemistry equipment and/or other analytical tools. The preparation of formal analysis reports to substantiate any failure conclusions and recommend solutions to programs will be required. Good interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team with some oversight by Sr. engineers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in electrical engineering related field.
  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles spanning a broad range of fields, including analog and digital circuits, RF, signal integrity, etc.
  • Experience with various electrical lab equipment (curve tracers, power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, signal generators, network analyzers, LCR meters, etc.).
  • Good understanding of drawings & electrical schematics.
  • Ability to independently author cogent technical reports and deliver presentations (verbal and/or written) to key stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, etc.).
  • Strong customer interaction skills with engineers of all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering related field with applicable job experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards (MIL-STD, IPC, ASTM, etc.).
  • Knowledge of lab analytical tools such as optical microscopes, real-time X-ray, Scanning Electron Microscopes, Scanning Acoustic Microscopy, etc.
  • General knowledge of other related disciplines such as mechanical & material analysis.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Mathcad, etc.
  • Ability to complete analysis work using problem solving skills and perform in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to work independently while managing priorities.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience through professional, school, or extracurricular projects.
