About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and infrastructure at our Advanced Research Center. The successful candidate will have a strong background in industrial electrical engineering, including experience with research or testing operations, and a deep understanding of high and medium voltage electrical systems. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical systems, as well as leading the design and implementation of new electrical infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with a minimum of 5years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, or Associates degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, or High School diploma with a minimum of 15 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering
  • Experience with research or testing operations, including electrical system design, development, and implementation.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Strong electrical safety knowledge, including OSHA, NFPA, IEEE, and NEC code and regulations.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States is required. We will not sponsor individuals for work visas, now or in the future, for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience with high and medium voltage electrical systems (115kV and 34.5kV) strongly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including circuit analysis, power systems, and control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and infrastructure, including high and medium voltage systems (115kV and 34.5kV).
  • Develop and review electrical system designs, including single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations, including NEC, NESC, and OSHA.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of electrical systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of electrical equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal electrical system performance and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with facilities and maintenance teams to ensure safe and efficient electrical system operation.
  • Manage grid interconnection from site generation sources as well as research experiments.
  • Manage infrastructure projects from conception to completion, including planning, design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including researchers, engineers, and other facilities team members, to ensure project deliverables meet requirements and expectations.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
  • Develop and implement electrical safety policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular electrical safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Mentor team members in electrically focused research roles on electrical safety.
