About The Position

The Boeing Company is looking for an Electrical Engineer and Systems Architect (Senior or Lead) to join their BDS Electrical team in Huntington Beach, California. This position will report to the Maritime & Terrestrial Electrical & Electronic Solutions team, supporting the Intelligence Systems portfolio and other Maritime and Terrestrial efforts within the Space, Intelligence, and Weapons Systems division. The role focuses on test and troubleshooting, anomaly resolution of existing electrical/electronic hardware, and offers opportunities for future design work with the Electronic Products Center of Excellence. As a Lead Electrical Engineer and Systems Architect, you will be part of a bi-coastal team delivering solutions for complex engineering challenges, working on products ranging from Autonomous Extra-Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (XLUUVs) to custom underwater solutions for Intelligence Systems. You will be responsible for designing, integrating, and testing electronic components and systems throughout the product lifecycle, including enhancing existing field units and architecting new systems. This hands-on role involves working on state-of-the-art projects, leading a team of Electrical Engineers, collaborating with Chief Engineers, technical experts, and customers, and providing technical support to suppliers. Daily activities include architecting new solutions, performing and leading integration, test, and troubleshooting of maritime undersea electronic and electromechanical systems, collaborating with cross-functional peers, mentoring others, and driving the team to solve technical challenges.

Requirements

  • This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Level 4: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in developing complex architectures for electronic and electrical systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Level 5: 10+ years of related systems design and integration experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience developing innovative analog, power, and/or digital circuit design principles (e.g., frequency, voltage, thermal, bandwidth, mismatch) to design, simulate, and layout circuit boards.
  • Familiarity with multilayer mixed-signal circuits, sensors, analog/digital conversion, firmware/FPGA programming including VHDL, use of test equipment, and test design.
  • Experience with battery system design and logistics, including knowledge of battery electrochemical characteristics and system CONOPS/constraints.
  • Experience in optical systems design including infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO), visible, ultraviolet (UV), photonics, fiber, high-energy laser, and optics systems design methods.
  • Knowledge of high-performance motor control algorithms and software.
  • Proficiency in Matlab and other data analytical tools.
  • Experience working with UUVs.
  • Team experience (Agile work environment, formal technical presentations, formal customer presentations).
  • Experience troubleshooting shipboard navigation, communication, and power systems.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in testing and validation of system designs to ensure they meet operational and functional requirements.
  • Experience with Engineering Release process (including conceptual design, drawing review, and approval).
  • Experience with production and fabrication support, including: Material Review Board (MRB), Non-Conformance (NCR) disposition, Supplier Information Requests (SIR).

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer and system requirements to develop architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various Intelligence Systems and maritime electronic products, including requirements, interface, and electronic system architecture definitions.
  • Develop designs consistent with requirements and specifications, including appropriate component selections, circuit designs, and supporting modeling and analysis.
  • Support Supplier Management with make/buy recommendations and other technical services.
  • Lead electronics hardware design verification through various methods of review, testing, and analysis.
  • Identify, track, and status technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Support fabrication, maintenance, and troubleshooting of maritime undersea electronic and electromechanical systems, such as XLUUVs, payloads, and other Intelligence Systems solutions, including hands-on leadership to troubleshoot hardware and test setups using schematics, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Resolve complex issues on critical programs related to architectural approaches, requirements, specifications, and design.
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop new concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements, recommending and managing technology insertion while working under consultative direction.
  • Lead technical aspects of proposal preparation.
  • Identify critical performance measures and develop processes for computing them.
