Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or GED.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the electric utility field.
  • A Journeyman Lineman or Journeyman Electrician license with advance skills in overhead and underground electrical installations and maintenance, OR competence in MV electrical systems, and professional mastery of utility line construction and repair.
  • Accuracy in developing record drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Work on call, and overtime as requested.
  • Work on elevated structures.
  • Applicant required to successfully complete physical abilities testing to remove/replace a large manhole cover weighing 100 lbs and drag 10 ft.; push/pull 100 lbs resistance; lift/carry 90 lbs, lift one-45 lbs of weight up a ladder, kneeling work in confined spaces, and other tasks.
  • Security sensitive; three-year driving record and criminal background checks conducted on selected candidate.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years experience in installing, maintaining switchgear and distribution systems.
  • Completion of a formal line worker apprentice program.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair low- and medium-voltage metal-enclosed and metal-clad switchgear associated with campus electrical distribution systems. Duties include performing functional and diagnostic testing, inspecting and servicing breakers, and ensuring all work complies with electrical safety standards and operational procedures. Accurate electronic documentation of maintenance activities and system conditions is required.
  • Perform medium voltage underground cable installation, pulling, splicing, and terminations for lead-jacketed and EPR-insulated cables. Responsibilities include the installation, operation, and maintenance of underground distribution systems, including duct banks, manholes that have known energized insulated electrical conductors, vaults, raceways, and associated grounding and protective systems.
  • Install and pull LV wire as required.
  • Perform work on exposed and overhead electrical distribution systems, including raceway, insulated, and non-insulated cable systems.
  • Designated personnel are required to climb poles, towers, and other elevated structures to install, maintain, and repair electrical components and low-voltage lighting systems.
  • Update record drawings and create switching orders.
  • Review and evaluate design proposals and specifications for feasibility.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and electronically.
  • Operate forklift, bobcat, backhoe, bucket truck, cable trailer, cable pulling devices, and assorted personnel lifts.
  • Drive UT vehicle.
  • Experience with standard hand tools, digital volt-ohm meter, high voltage tester, high pot, megohmmeter.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
  • Accurate electronic documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and system conditions is required, including timely entry, updating, and tracking of work orders, asset information, and service histories within UT-Works the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Training certification required within 24 months.
  • Maintains an acceptable driving record as required by UT Systems Policy UTS157.
  • Required to wear uniforms and carry University issues cell phone during work and on call hours.
