We are looking for a detail-oriented and driven Electrical Designer / Lighting Analyst with minimum three to five years of relevant experience to join our Traffic Operations team. This position is based in one of ISL's Calgary, Edmonton or Lethbridge offices to support mentorship, collaboration and project delivery across our Transportation team. As an intermediate member of our Traffic Operations team, you'll take ownership of roadway lighting and traffic signal design tasks from concept through construction while working alongside experienced engineers and project managers. As your experience grows, you'll have opportunities to lead electrical design packages, coordinate directly with clients and utilities, support and mentor junior team members, and contribute to proposals and project delivery. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities while working both independently and collaboratively. Responsibilities will include: Design and Technical Analysis Develop roadway lighting designs for interchanges, intersections, roadways, and pedestrian corridors using AGi32 software to meet project-specific lighting, pole spacing, luminaire, and shielding requirements. Complete roadway lighting and traffic signal electrical designs including electrical calculations (voltage drop, conduit fill, etc.), single-line diagrams, schematics, material lists, and the preparation of design drawings,. Apply relevant codes, standards, and owner requirements, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), provincial electrical codes, Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) guidance, Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) standards, and client-specific requirements. Review technical designs to ensure accuracy, quality, constructability, and coordination with the overall project. Project Coordination and Client Interaction Collaborate on transportation and electrical engineering projects across ISL disciplines and offices Interact professionally and communicate effectively with co-workers, clients, contractors, project stakeholders, and industry peers while providing excellent service and timely responses Coordinate with wire service providers to determine project-specific power supply sources and energization requirements Project Delivery Develop concepts and designs using Civil 3D, CAD, and other computer-aided drafting programs Prepare design calculations, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates Assist with the preparation of proposals, reports, contract documents, and technical evaluations Provide tender period support, contract administration and construction inspection support Professional Growth and Team Contribution Work under minimal supervision during design, tender and construction phases of projects Perform other duties as required to support project and team needs

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with electrical design and/or lighting design, especially for civil and transportation related projects
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or equivalent) and the ability to travel throughout Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan, as required

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design, lighting analysis, and/or drafting for civil or transportation projects
  • Eligibility for or registered as a P.Eng., P.L.(Eng.), E.I.T., P.Tech., C.E.T., or equivalent professional designation in Alberta, B.C., or Saskatchewan
  • Experience using Civil 3D/AutoCAD drafting software
  • Experience with AGi32 Lighting Software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Bluebeam Revu/Adobe Acrobat, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), or Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Experience with warrant evaluations or analysis for roadway lighting, traffic signals and electrical design
  • Familiarity with process to apply for new commercial electrical services, and coordinate energization and enrollment of new electrical systems
  • Experience completing traffic signal and/or roadway lighting design including selection and layout of poles, signal heads, luminaires, cabinets, cable, conduit, and junction boxes
  • Experience with fiber optic design
  • Understanding of relevant codes, standards and guidelines including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
  • Utility coordination experience
  • Experience and/or desire to be involved in construction administration and inspection
  • Proposal writing experience

Responsibilities
