About The Position

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated Electrical Designer II to join our talented team at our office located in Vaughan, Ontario. In this role, you will work with a team of Designers, Architects, and Engineers to develop design concepts, which are incorporated into a final product to the client’s specifications. Primarily works on technical aspects of a project.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of previous design experience in the building design industry.
  • Technical or Associate Degree in design from an accredited technical institution or college.
  • Experience in the use of engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD/Revit/Navisworks).
  • Proven time management skills to juggle more than one project at a time.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • General knowledge of Electrical system design and applicable codes.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Project Lead with design development and documentation.
  • Uses computer-aided design technologies to develop sketches, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Reviews drawings and documents to ensure compliance with company design and production standards.
  • Sets up views/sheets within Revit or AutoCAD for use on a project, utilizing the established naming convention and drawing list prepared by the Project Lead.
  • Works with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion.
  • Interacts with clients on a limited basis to secure scope and design intent.
  • Research equipment selections from catalogs under the direction of the Project Designer/Engineer.
  • Performs basic engineering/design calculations, such as motor feeder sizing, conversion from HP and kW to amps and kVA, branch circuit and panel loads, and voltage drop.
  • Ensures acceptable levels of quality and checks for coordination of work to assure documents reflect design intent and necessary coordination.
  • Coordinate design work with related engineering disciplines.
  • Attends job and construction meetings and participates in the coordination of the work.
  • Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials.
  • Performs special projects and tasks as assigned.
