About The Position

GM Defense is seeking an Electrical Design Release Engineer to support the design, development, testing, release, and continuous improvement of electrical systems and components. The role translates customer and program requirements into robust, manufacturable, serviceable, and validated solutions. The engineer collaborates with engineering, program teams, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and customers to align priorities and deliver results. The work requires adaptability as requirements evolve, ownership of assigned parts, and timely escalation of risks. The role is categorized as hybrid. The selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least three times a week, or at another frequency set by their manager. The candidate must be able to work periodically at the Milford Proving Grounds, travel as required, and legally operate a motor vehicle. The position is subject to export control restrictions and requires the candidate to be a U.S. Person. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role, and the position is not eligible for relocation benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in electrical systems, vehicle electrical engineering, design release, controls, harnesses, power distribution, embedded systems, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, including circuit analysis, power and signal distribution, grounding, signal integrity, electromagnetic compatibility, harness and cable protection, or system interfaces.
  • Experience interpreting requirements, schematics, wiring diagrams, interface definitions, bills of material, test results, and supplier technical documentation.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and prioritization skills, with sound judgment on assigned work.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work with general direction, and escalate risks appropriately.
  • Ability to support timely resolution of design and manufacturing issues as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to work periodically at the Milford Proving Grounds, travel as required, and legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee, or refugee.
  • Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification.
  • Proficiency in Capital Logic.
  • Experience with EMI mitigation to meet EMC requirements.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes or vehicle launch experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own electrical systems and components from requirements definition through design, validation, release, launch, and continuous improvement.
  • Interpret and help translate customer, vehicle, regulatory, and program requirements into engineering requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain electrical components, including harnesses, cables, networked modules, sensors, actuators, and related hardware and software interfaces.
  • Evaluate engineering tradeoffs involving performance, reliability, cost, mass, timing, manufacturability, and serviceability; communicate recommendations and risks.
  • Participate in and support design and peer reviews, technical decisions, interface control activities, and engineering documentation, including change work orders, sourcing documentation, bills of material, design data, and release packages.
  • Support supplier technical execution, including requirements, design reviews, validation, timing, issue resolution, and corrective actions.
  • Provide hands-on support for prototype, pre-production, and production builds, including electrical integration, troubleshooting, containment, and root-cause analysis.
  • Support launch readiness by tracking deliverables, open issues, build support, and change implementation through closure.
  • Communicate technical status, issues, and risks to engineering and program teams; escalate decisions and recovery needs through appropriate technical leadership.

Benefits
