Electrical Design Engineer

LED FastStart•Belle Chasse, LA

About The Position

The Electrical Design Engineer leads the development of complete electrical design packages—including schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and bills of materials—for low- and medium-voltage control equipment. Designs must meet manufacturing, regulatory, and client requirements. The role calls for advanced technical knowledge and collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, field service, vendor, and client teams. The engineer provides technical support during production and client witness testing, helps resolve wiring and control issues, supports project estimating, and contributes to new product development and continuous improvement. The role also includes leading technical client communications and mentoring junior designers and engineers.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of electrical engineering design experience with switchgear in the marine, heavy industrial, and oil and gas industries.
  • At least 1 year of experience with electromechanical power system design, including low- and medium-voltage power distribution, motor control centers, controls integration, and arc flash protection.
  • Understanding of generator controls, protective relays, short-circuit and coordination studies, and complex system integration.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, PromisE, and related electrical CAD tools.
  • Ability to read and understand client-supplied job specifications and one-line diagrams and use them to create design criteria for project development.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and UL electrical standards.
  • Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work on fast-paced, short-turnaround projects.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making, with emphasis on cost, safety, and quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing technical documentation and presenting to internal teams and clients.
  • Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional collaboration.
  • Commitment to mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
