Electrical Design Engineer

Ampacity, LLC., AZ
$90,000 - $100,000Hybrid

About The Position

Ampacity is building out a full electrical distribution offering - cable, grounding, conduit, terminations, and everything else needed for a kitted EBOS solution - and we need a Design Engineer to help lead it. You'll independently design, review, and sign off on electrical deliverables for live utility-scale solar projects: sizing MV cable and collection systems, building BOM packages, leading design reviews. You'll work directly with our PE-licensed Electrical Engineering Manager, with real ownership from day one - not just execution under close supervision. If you want to shape how a growing company builds its design processes and tooling, not just draft to spec, this is that role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3-5 years of electrical design experience, with direct utility-scale solar experience required
  • Working knowledge of BOS components (cable, harnesses, combiners) and relevant NEC articles (690, 691)
  • Track record developing accurate BOMs and collaborating across structural/interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and written/verbal communication
  • Proficient in Excel; comfortable picking up new internal tools
  • Able to work independently and own deliverables with minimal oversight

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD, PVFarm, or similar drafting/design tool experience
  • EIT or PE licensure, or active pursuit
  • Scripting experience (Python, etc.) to support internal tool development
  • Background at a distributor, EPC, or developer in solar EBOS

Responsibilities

  • Independently review electrical drawings and develop BOM packages for utility-scale solar EBOS projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Lead design reviews using internal checklists and quality processes, with authority to sign off on deliverables
  • Size and select MV cable, harnesses, and collection system components with minimal oversight
  • Apply relevant codes and standards (NEC 690/691, NABCEP) to project-specific design decisions
  • Serve as a key point of contact for customers and 3rd party engineering teams, translating project needs into clear electrical designs and take-offs
  • Collaborate with the structural design team to drive coordinated value engineering across electrical and structural scopes
  • Contribute to internal design tools and standardized processes (e.g., the team's BOM tool, PVFarm) and help mentor junior team members as the department grows

Benefits

  • Competitive Total Compensation
  • Industry-leading salary plus 401k for eligible employees
  • Paid vacation, sick days, holidays, parental leave, and bereavement leave
  • Health resources and wellness support to help you thrive inside and outside of work
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance plus additional health assistance
  • Internal promotion priority with training and skills development programs
  • Diverse, inclusive environment where you're valued as a whole person
