About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Jr. Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. Engineers at Amazon work to design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, aiming for world-class uptime for customers. This role involves justifying and communicating technical decisions to senior management, driving continuous advancements, and defining/designing systems that customers rely on. The work environment is fast-paced and exciting, with opportunities for professional growth and continuous learning. Engineers will be responsible for multi-million dollar designs, with ingenuity being key to quality, speed, and cost. The role requires hands-on electrical design experience, including designing electrical systems, understanding data center critical equipment needs, and constructability of designs. Engineers will take designs from concept to permit and construction documents, define critical equipment specifications, approve equipment submittals, and support construction from site selection through commissioning and turnover. Teamwork is essential, involving collaboration with internal and external groups, including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Travel to data centers and vendor factory visits is required, up to 20% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing

Responsibilities

  • Data center electrical designs and collaboration with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
  • Creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
  • Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approval of equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed.
