About The Position

Armada is hiring an Electrical Design Engineer for its power and integration team, working directly under the Senior Electrical Design Engineer. Armada builds and deploys ruggedized, modular, containerized data centers that provide high-density AI compute in locations where traditional data centers cannot operate. The company is scaling production across international markets, with deployments ranging from multi-megawatt GPU clusters to multi-unit campuses supporting up to 400 kW per rack. This is a hands-on design role owning electrical design for modular units from single-line diagrams through commissioning. The engineer will review vendor submittals and directly support manufacturing partners and deployment teams across multiple time zones. The position is remote and includes occasional international travel to manufacturing partner sites, deployments, and trade events. The role involves producing engineering documentation and collaborating with mechanical, controls, structural, and fire protection engineers, as well as external consultants. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, collaborative problem-solver who can work autonomously in a fast-paced, growing company and is motivated to deliver hardware and practical results.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 3–7 years of post-degree experience in electrical design, including at least 2 years in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial power, or equivalent complex power distribution.
  • Working knowledge of the NEC (NFPA 70); knowledge of one or more IEC-based national codes is ideal.
  • Hands-on experience with protection coordination and arc-flash software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and/or Revit MEP, plus Bluebeam Revu or equivalent for submittal markup.
  • Familiarity with UPS systems, including double-conversion topology, battery sizing, and parallel operation; medium- and low-voltage switchgear; transformers; and generator/ATS integration.
  • Ability to read mechanical and structural drawings and identify interdisciplinary conflicts before manufacturing.
  • Clear written communication skills for RFI responses, submittal reviews, and technical memos read by vendors and executives.

Nice To Haves

  • PE or EIT licensure; neither is required.
  • Experience with containerized or modular/prefabricated data center products.
  • Knowledge of high-density liquid-cooled GPU systems and related electrical considerations, including inrush, harmonics, rack-level power distribution, and busway.
  • Working familiarity with battery chemistries beyond VRLA and lithium-ion, and with UL 9540A or equivalent large-scale battery testing requirements.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NFPA 75/76, NFPA 110, and NFPA 855 as they apply to mission-critical and energy storage installations.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple AHJs and international insurance bodies on mission-critical approvals.
  • Exposure to BMS/DCIM integration, BACnet/Modbus, and the electrical side of controls handoffs.
  • Experience working with external manufacturing partners and consultants across multiple time zones.
  • Multi-jurisdictional design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electrical designs for modular containerized data centers, including single-line diagrams, load calculations, panel schedules, grounding, cable sizing, and raceway layouts across 480 V and other international low-voltage distribution standards.
  • Perform protective-device coordination, arc-flash, and short-circuit studies using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent software; produce field labels and coordination reports.
  • Review and redline vendor submittals for UPS and battery systems, cooling distribution units, switchgear, main distribution boards, PDUs, and generator/ATS packages; identify discrepancies and hold vendors accountable to specifications.
  • Support manufacturing partners by answering RFIs, resolving layout and piping or cable-routing conflicts, and participating in factory witness testing.
  • Contribute to compliance across international electrical, fire, and mission-critical facility codes and coordinate with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Produce engineering documentation, including Statements of Requirements, design-basis memos, block diagrams, and commissioning procedures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, structural, and fire protection engineers and external consultants, raising concerns when designs or decisions are incorrect.
  • Support field commissioning and troubleshooting, including occasional international travel to manufacturing partner sites, deployments, and trade events.

Benefits

  • Equity.
  • Subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Health savings accounts (HSA), flexible spending accounts (FSA), and dependent care FSAs (DCFSA).
  • Retirement plan options, including 401(k) and Roth 401(k).
  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO).
  • 14 paid company holidays per year.
