About The Position

Seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support our client in Greenville, SC. This position serves as a staff engineer performing engineering assignments of intermediate complexity. Under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer, the engineer will analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements. The role involves developing and reviewing specifications and design criteria, performing and checking engineering analyses and calculations, specifying materials, equipment and systems, and solving technical problems of intermediate complexity. The engineer will also coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients, execute work in compliance with the Project Quality Plan and procedures, and execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines. Additionally, the role includes establishing, controlling, and reporting on material key quantities, providing analysis and forecasts, and providing technical support for activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting, including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittals. Technical support for construction administration, including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes, will also be required. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Intermediate knowledge of discipline codes and standards
  • Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include proficiency in the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
  • Experience providing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services on commercial or industrial projects
  • Proficiency executing EPC projects utilizing engineering analysis, 3D modeling and 2D Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) automation tools in a multi-discipline environment
  • Must be able to complete an Electrical Designer Self-Assessment Form
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical (Power) Engineering and minimum five (5) years of work-related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer license
  • Experience with design of systems, structures and components for nuclear facilities under the requirements of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) NQA-1
  • Practical field experience
  • EPC project experience for the following industries: o U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency o Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program o Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
  • Proficiency with Intergraph Smart3D (S3D)
  • Proficiency with Visual Professional lighting design software
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical power systems software (e.g., SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), Electrical Transient and Analysis Program (ETAP), etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of power systems

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify electrical design drawings (e.g., single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagram layouts, raceway, lighting, and grounding)
  • Perform complex system studies (e.g., short circuit, load flow, stability, motor starting, harmonics, relay coordination and ground grid)
  • Develop area classifications and design documents
  • Develop electrical design documents
  • Perform electrical calculations such as short circuit, relay coordination, voltage drop, cable de-rating, and cable pulling tension
  • Prepare motor schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements
  • Develop and review specifications and design criteria
  • Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment and systems; and solve technical problems of intermediate complexity
  • Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients
