About The Position

Woodstream is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer III, New Product Development, in Lancaster, PA. This role is responsible for moderate to complex electrical engineering design projects within the new product development team. The engineer will perform technical research, lead the design and development of electrical components and products, source cutting-edge electronics, and manage advanced prototyping and testing efforts. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and support for manufacturing are key aspects of this position. The engineer will work closely with the Director of Engineering to ensure technical vision is executed efficiently throughout the product development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in consumer product development, PCB level product design, IC selection, BOM development and other related EE engineering activities.
  • Expertise in appropriate computer design software and/or hardware (i.e., OrCAD, Altium, EagleCAD, DipTrace, KiCAD, UpVerter, Fritzing, CircuitMaker, ZenitPCB).
  • Experience writing embedded firmware code is required.
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in RF (radio frequency) product design is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in IOT and machine learning is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of electrical components and products for moderate to complex scale projects, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the creation, testing, and refinement of advanced electrical prototypes, ensuring performance, safety, and cost objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain an external focus on suppliers, academic advancements, competitors, and industry events to proactively identify and recommend technologies for integration into Woodstream products.
  • Collaborate with sourcing teams to select advanced electronic components, provide final electrical specifications, and support the transition from design to production.
  • Work closely with the Director of Engineering to ensure technical vision is executed efficiently across the product development lifecycle.
  • Finalize electrical specifications and support the manufacturing process to ensure smooth production transitions.
  • Design new electronics hardware and firmware, modify existing schematics and layouts, and maintain existing products, addressing component obsolescence and adding new functionality.
  • Develop and conduct testing techniques that meet regulatory and functional requirements, ensuring designs incorporate manufacturing limitations and performance attributes, while defining tolerances for critical components.
  • Benchmark competitive products and maintain up-to-date knowledge of product designs and capabilities to identify competitive advantages and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present technical developments within Woodstream.
  • Develop compelling product demonstrations, technical specifications, and other support materials.
  • Display perseverance and flexibility in overcoming technical challenges, approaching setbacks as opportunities to find alternative solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
