About The Position

The Electrical Controls Specialist provides advanced technical expertise in electrical systems, PLC programming, controls integration, and automation infrastructure to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all brewery production and utility equipment. The role applies specialized knowledge to diagnose complex issues, develop and modify PLC logic, direct electricians on corrective actions, and execute critical controls-related decisions with a high degree of autonomy. The position exists to elevate the site’s technical capability and ensure production continuity through expert-level troubleshooting, programming, and system optimization.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • 3+ years PLC programming/controls engineering experience.
  • Expertise with Ladder Logic, HMI/SCADA, industrial networking, instrumentation, and VFDs.
  • Experience directing electricians or skilled trades in troubleshooting and corrective work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced PLC programming, logic modification, and troubleshooting across Brewery, Packaging, and Utilities.
  • Independently diagnose complex electrical, controls, and automation failures and direct electricians on corrective actions.
  • Lead electrical controls initiatives to improve safety, quality, and performance.
  • Respond to requests to help troubleshoot electrical issues that have been escalated by the operations and maintenance teams related to electrical systems.
  • Develop, modify and optimize PLC programs to support operational requirements, including programming/debug of Allen Bradley & Siemens PLCs, HMI’s, relay-based circuits and networking.
  • Provide guidance and training to maintenance personnel on PCL troubleshooting and basic programming.
  • Execute on various targets, KPI and staff initiatives to drive improvement objectives.
  • Assist Electrical Engineering in developing capital project programs for new equipment and major repairs.
  • Support capital projects through controls design, specification development, integration, and commissioning.
  • Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects.
  • Perform system testing to verify performance and troubleshooting integration challenges.
  • Ability to work with voltage power systems up to 11,500 volts.
  • Maintain compliance with NEC, OSHA, Arc Flash, GMP, and plant safety standards. Adhere to company policies, industry standards, and safety regulations.
