The Electrical Commissioning Technician is responsible for supporting the commissioning, testing, and validation of electrical power distribution systems within advanced manufacturing, industrial, and high-tech facilities. This role focuses on verifying installations, executing inspections and functional testing, and supporting safe system startup to ensure electrical systems meet design specifications, safety requirements, and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience commissioning, installing, maintaining, or supporting electrical power distribution systems in industrial, data center, semiconductor, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety principles, energized work controls, arc flash awareness, and LOTO procedures.
  • Experience performing electrical system walkdowns, inspections, and field verification activities.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing methods and tools (megger testing, continuity checks, voltage verification, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings including single-line diagrams, schematics, panel schedules, and specifications.
  • Experience working with low- and medium-voltage electrical systems preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to clearly document deficiencies, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable working in active construction and operational environments with a strong safety-first mindset.
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems such as Microsoft Office, CMMS, or commissioning software preferred.
  • Technical degree, electrical trade school, apprenticeship completion, or military electrical background preferred.
  • Formal education is preferred but not required; relevant hands-on electrical experience will be strongly considered in place of a degree.
  • Electrical licenses, certifications, or safety training (NFPA 70E, OSHA 10/30, LOTO, arc flash, etc.) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the systematic commissioning process for electrical systems, including verification, testing, calibration, and validation of installed equipment and systems.
  • Perform detailed system walkdowns of electrical infrastructure to verify installation accuracy, identify deficiencies, and document variances from design or specifications.
  • Inspect and support commissioning activities for electrical systems including switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, MCCs, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and associated distribution equipment.
  • Conduct functional testing, continuity checks, insulation resistance testing, and operational verification to confirm system readiness.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, commissioning leads, and operations teams to validate system performance and readiness for energization.
  • Support energization planning and execution activities in accordance with site procedures and safety requirements.
  • Adhere to all electrical safety standards, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and site-specific commissioning protocols.
  • Identify, document, and assist with mitigation of electrical safety risks during commissioning and startup activities.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain commissioning documentation including test reports, checklists, redlines, and turnover packages.
  • Update commissioning records to reflect system modifications, field changes, or enhancements discovered during commissioning.
  • Support system startup, turnover, and handoff to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities as assigned in support of commissioning and project objectives.
