About The Position

The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. The Electrical CAD Design Engineer supports the design and documentation of electrical routing, harnessing, panel layouts, and related assemblies for power generation systems. This role partners with cross-functional teams to develop accurate 3D and 2D CAD deliverables that support product development, manufacturing, and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in electrical product design and development
  • 3D CAD Expertise: Experience in Electrical 3D CAD designs and layouts for industrial wire, cable, connector, and electrical panel layout/routing for power generation assemblies
  • Must be able to understand and convey from 2D CAD to 3D CAD the following: electrical cables and wire materials, electrical properties, specifications, parameters, etc., preferably in PTC Creo 10/11, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar
  • Must be able to understand and convey from 3D CAD to 2D CAD the following: industrial and automotive connectors (IEC, NFPA 70, IPC control and power connectors), backshells, inserts, pinout structures, heavy duty modular, bulkhead, and terminal block distribution, etc.
  • Proven ability to manage large assemblies and complex wiring harness designs
  • Experience in writing technical documentation like work instructions, procedures, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Siemens AutoCAD Inventor, Zuken E3, NX routing and/or EPLAN is a plus.
  • AutoCAD Electrical experience (ACADE 24 is helpful for 2D/3D documentation, customer drawings, manufacturable assemblies, and process workflows)
  • Experience in PTC Creo with an emphasis on Creo Cabling and Harness extensions are a plus.
  • Preferred familiarity in applying NFPA, IEC, and UL specifications to electrical designs
  • PDM/PLM drawing and CAD geometry experience preferred (Teamcenter, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems, including enclosures, control panel layouts, wiring harnesses, cable routing using 3D/2D CAD tools. (Primarily Creo and AutoCAD)
  • Create, update, and release electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and BOMs to support development and production. Maintain the same in Teamcenter PDM system.
  • Incorporate engineering changes into designs and documentation, ensuring accuracy and alignment with system requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (controls, mechanical, manufacturing, and suppliers) to achieve integrated system solutions
  • Support prototype builds and testing by troubleshooting issues and implementing timely design improvements.
  • Help ensure proper configuration control and compliance with applicable standards (e.g., UL/NFPA) in all designs and documentation
