About The Position

The Electrical Architect, Vehicle Control Systems is a senior individual contributor who defines and manages the electronic architecture for assigned vehicle control applications, operating modes, and vehicle state management systems. The role bridges systems engineering, software development, and cross-functional coordination to ensure functional integration and compliance with vehicle-level requirements. As a Feature Partner, the architect coordinates work and support across vehicle control features and functions and advises stakeholders on complex architecture and integration matters. The role owns assigned vehicle control functions from concept through production and post-launch support, including design, development, integration, validation, and performance. The portfolio may include REEV feature and system architecture, vehicle state management, vehicle application modes, and vehicle application controls. The architect develops and aligns logical and physical electrical architecture, requirements, interfaces, and milestone deliverables with cross-functional partners. The position is based at Scout Motors' corporate headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, or Novi, Michigan. It requires working in the office 4–5 days per week, with regular in-person meetings and occasional travel for company events. This is a full-time, exempt position with a stated initial base salary range of $140,000–$170,000 and eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field, with 8–12 years of relevant experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Extensive experience with automotive systems or mechatronic products, such as body, infotainment, drive, or energy systems.
  • In-depth expertise in systems engineering, multi-domain physics, and complex system design involving electrical and software integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise others on complex technical matters.
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles and a results- and solution-oriented approach.
  • Working knowledge of software controls, electrical engineering, and electronics, including development, testing, and validation methods for mechatronic systems.
  • Familiarity with embedded-systems software and electrical systems such as wiring and power distribution units.
  • Familiarity with CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, and LVDS communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with vehicle network tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems creatively and effectively, analyze and interpret data, influence extended cross-functional teams, and drive issues to closure without direct authority.
  • Integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, a positive attitude, and a growth mindset.
  • Comfort with change and flexibility in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, with a collaborative approach to achieving ambitious goals.
  • Ability to work in the office 4–5 days per week and travel from time to time for company events.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage the electrical architecture for assigned vehicle control applications, operating modes, and vehicle state management systems.
  • Help develop Scout Motors' vehicle architecture data process and ensure consistency across functional, logical, and physical architectures in line with requirements.
  • Evaluate interdependencies and variable factors, identify inconsistencies, and select or adapt methods and evaluation criteria to develop effective solutions with Main System architects.
  • Own the end-to-end functional architecture for assigned vehicle control systems and drive tactical program targets through cross-functional teams.
  • Take end-to-end accountability for the design, development, integration, validation, and performance of assigned vehicle control and state management functions from concept through production and post-launch support.
  • Coordinate development, integration, and validation of assigned functions against program timelines and milestones, including prototype builds, design verification (VFF), product validation (PVS), and vehicle launch gates.
  • Ensure function-level software, hardware, and test deliverables are completed, reviewed, and approved at each milestone.
  • Develop logical and physical electrical/electronic architecture in coordination with system engineers and domain experts, resolving complex models, interfaces, and procedures.
  • Define system-level requirements across electrical/electronic, software, and mechanical domains; support architecture design and integration at system and component levels.
  • Serve as a liaison among hardware, applications, and core cross-functional teams, and build stakeholder networks within and outside the immediate area of expertise.
  • Own functional and non-functional requirements, development coordination, validation readiness, and technical sign-off recommendations for assigned functions.
  • Collaborate across the system V-development lifecycle from concept through launch and lead technical alignment in design reviews and cross-functional forums.
  • Use independent judgment to resolve complex, cross-domain issues and ambiguous or conflicting inputs, and escalate material program risks with clear recommendations.
  • Develop component and system designs, functional and end-of-line specifications, detailed test methods, and system-level DFMEA, design verification, and product validation deliverables for complex mechatronic systems.
  • Guide the application and improvement of engineering principles and methods, including model-based design and MBSE/MBD simulation, and support MIL/SIL/HIL activities.
  • Apply technical judgment and collaboration to support vehicle control features and functions and advise stakeholders on complex architecture and integration issues.
