About The Position

This position involves working under the direction of a journeyman electrician to assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures. The role requires working with hand tools and power tools, connecting wiring in electrical circuits, preparing and assembling conduits, and performing various installation tasks. The apprentice will also be responsible for diagnosing and correcting issues in electrical systems, inspecting equipment for safety and compliance, and advising management on potential hazards. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all safety standards and procedures, including OSHA and RELCO standards.

Requirements

  • Must be in apprentice school with some field experience (MA or RI)
  • Basic electrical and mechanical skills
  • Experience in commercial or industrial electrical work
  • Knowledge of the electrical code and the ability to research and retrieve information from the code book
  • Ability to read, understand, analyze blueprints and schematic drawings
  • Ability to follow directions and decipher technical information
  • Ability to complete work in a neat, safe, and professional manner
  • Knowledge of, and ability in, pipe bending, circuit wiring, feeders, services, fire alarm, wire pulling, underground, wiring electrical equipment
  • Ability to plan and project weekly material and labor requirements
  • Must be in apprentice school either MA or RI
  • Must be age 18 or older
  • OSHA 10 certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • GED or high school diploma

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of a journeyman electrician
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility
  • Prepare and assemble conduits
  • Work overtime when required
  • Climb ladder with material or tools, load wire reels, lift lights into ceiling, dig trenches, hold material and use screw gun or screw driver
  • Install various kinds of wires, cable and conduits in accordance with the requirements
  • Pull wires, attach wires to fishtape and keep wire free from kinks or abrasion
  • Connect conductors to switches, receptacles or appliances with proper methods of splicing, soldering and taping
  • Use rotor strippers
  • Maintain a safe work environment by observing and following all safety standards and procedures; complying with OSHA and RELCO standards
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
