About The Position

The electrical apprentice is responsible for assisting electricians and other crew members in installing electrical systems and components. This role requires the ability to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications, and basic math skills for calculations. The apprentice must be able to read and understand written instructions, take corrective action when problems arise, and determine the appropriate tools and equipment needed for tasks. Communication in English, reading safety JHA's, understanding shop tool maintenance, methods, and procedures on drawings, and layout work are also essential. A valid Texas driver's license with minimal infractions and a valid TWIC card are required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience with a state license required.
  • Ability to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Basic math skills are required to calculate surface areas.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions concerning work tasks.
  • Ability to take appropriate corrective action when observing or becoming aware of problems.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate tools and/or equipment needed to perform a job.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Must be able to read safety JHA’s, maintenance of shop tools, methods and procedures present on drawings, and layout work.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with minimal infractions and a valid TWIC, required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists journeyman in installing temporary and permanent power, above ground and underground raceways, cable and wire terminations, instrumentation, electrical equipment, and medium and high voltage equipment.
  • Moves material and equipment to work locations and helps set up work site.
  • Follows all safety and accident prevention procedures and promotes a safe work culture for the work area by using hand and power tools, equipment, and PPE in the correct manner.
  • Inspecting the site for unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Ensures the electrician’s work complies with customer specifications.
  • Communicates with journeyman, foreman, general foreman, superintendent, and project manager regarding construction activities.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
  • Other duties as necessary
