About The Position

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select motivated students with high potential and provide them with real world work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes, procedures, problems, resources, staff areas and people so that they become aware of the career opportunities at Nexteer Automotive. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity. In This Role You Will: Assist in Electrical Power Steering (EPS) system and software development which includes, but is not limited to, the following activities. Software and calibration update activities to support customer samples, vehicle testing, validation, and production. Assist in EPS trouble shooting activities using CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, oscilloscopes, and custom-made software tools like eTool, eCalNet. Assist in updates to requirements as a part of the development lifecycle. Assist in the creation of DFMEAs, Design Reviews, and validation plans. Assist with analysis and communication regarding defects, software changes, samples, validation updates, and much more. Assist in the creation and testing of Controller Assembly specifications. Attend Internal Product Development Team meetings. Assist in the creation of electrical harnesses and connectors for controllers.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be attending a 2-year college or 4-year university local to Saginaw.
  • Candidate must be studying Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • Candidate must have a cumulative 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Candidate must have the ability to work 20-32 hours per week during the Fall and Winter semesters and up to 40 hours in the summer
  • Candidate must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
  • Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Operating Systems and Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Candidate should be highly motivated with strong communication skills and a desire to work with people in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing engineering calculations using MATLAB/Simulink and Microsoft Excel
  • Programming experience using C, C#, or Visual Basic
  • Familiarity with Vector Communication tools that apply to CAN networks (CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe)
  • Fundamental understanding of the engineering development V model
  • Fundamental understanding of vehicle dynamics, mechanical systems, electronic systems, and computer hardware and software
