About The Position

We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician within our Specialty Mining Chemicals team. The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating instrumentation and electrical equipment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the manufacturing processes. They work closely with the maintenance and product line teams to support production goals, ensure regulatory compliance, and minimize downtime due to instrumentation or electrical issues. This position reports to the Maintenance Execution Superintendent and works collaboratively with maintenance team members and other site teams to ensure that the site’s maintenance and plant uptime objectives are achieved safely and sustainably.

Requirements

4 years of trade qualification in electrical & instrumentation
Proven experience as an Instrument & Electrical Technician in a chemical manufacturing or industrial environment.
Proficiency in troubleshooting instrumentation loops, control systems (e.g., DCS, PLCs), and electrical systems.
Familiarity with process instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, flow meters, and analysers.
Knowledge of electrical codes and standards, and safety protocols for hazardous environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders, including engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Have a clean driving record and possess a current/valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Associate's degree or Certification in Electrical Systems Technology preferred

Responsibilities

Adhere to electrical safety standards and regulatory requirements during all maintenance activities. Participate in safety inspections, audits, and training programs to promote a safe work environment.
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on instrumentation and electrical equipment such as sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLCs, motor control centers, and other related devices.
Diagnose instrumentation and electrical equipment problems using appropriate tools and techniques. Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore functionality and prevent recurrence.
Calibrate instrumentation devices and control systems in accordance with Orica procedures and standards. Ensure accuracy and reliability of measurements to maintain process efficiency and quality.
Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new instrumentation and electrical equipment. Collaborate with engineering and project teams to ensure installations meet design specifications and safety requirements.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, calibrations, and equipment performance. As required, generate reports detailing equipment status, maintenance schedules, and recommendations for improvement.
Respond promptly to instrumentation and electrical equipment emergencies and participate in troubleshooting and repair efforts to minimize production disruptions and ensure plant safety.
