About The Position

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has an opening in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for a Lab Technician. As an ECE Lab Technician, you will help students and faculty navigate challenging projects. This will include determining specifications of needed materials, parts, and supplies in consultation with faculty, staff, and students; procure instructional materials, supplies, and equipment in accordance with purchasing guidelines; maintain and manage inventory of parts, instructional kits, and equipment appropriate to support teaching laboratory activity needs; and support summer recruitment programs. Additionally, you will manage student worker hiring; assign work to and direct student workers, and track and approve student worker time. You will supervise student workers as they assist other students at the stockroom window and help you to develop laboratory materials and kits. You will help to manage all equipment and facilities associated with labs. You will provide and maintain a safe work environment by participating in safety programs, committees, or teams and by conducting laboratory safety audits.

Requirements

  • Relevant associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
  • A minimum of two years related professional work experience
  • In lieu of the educational requirement, a minimum of five total years of related experience is required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electrical systems in one or more of the following domains: electronics and PCB manufacturing at the component or system level; wiring, soldering, and debugging of electronic systems; basic programming of embedded systems; electric motors; or electrical power wiring
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn 3D printing, laser cutting, or other types of packaging of electrical systems
  • Any experience either personal or professional with IT support such as system administration, using and installing Linux, or managing databases
