About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking an Electric Utility Distribution Electrician/Lineman for its Site 300 location in Tracy, California. This role involves performing a wide range of specialized journey-level electrical tasks, including maintenance, operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of medium-voltage and high-voltage electric utility systems and equipment. The position is within the Electric Utility Division of the Infrastructure Maintenance & Utilities Department and requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; completion of apprenticeship program in the electrician trade or equivalent experience.
  • Basic journey-level skills, knowledge and abilities in the electrician trade, including proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade including operating and working from a utility-type high-reach bucket truck and digger-derrick.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain, operate, install, repair, replace, test, troubleshoot, and commission transformers, switches, conductors, power-poles, and associated pole-mounted equipment and hardware used in the overhead distribution of electric power at the 15kV and 115kV voltage levels.
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical, administrative, and management personnel.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and associated software to prepare logs and reports, send and receive e-mails, perform computer-based training, and timekeeping entry.
  • Ability to work scheduled, on-call, and emergency overtime.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in substation maintenance and operations.
  • Experience reading electrical diagrams, testing protective relays, and working from drawings.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and OSHA safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level electrical work.
  • Perform maintenance, switching operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning work on overhead pole-lines, transformers, switches and other electrical equipment used in the overhead distribution of electric power at the 15kV and 115kV voltage levels.
  • Work with other craft personnel and provide technical guidance.
  • Provide effective and timely customer service to clients and team members.
  • Prepare and deliver reports; fill out preventative maintenance requests, deficiency reports, and work orders using a personal computer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
