About The Position

Geosyntec is seeking a Professional to Project Electric Transmission Siting Specialist to establish and grow its electrical transmission line practice. This role is based in Richmond, VA, but offers flexibility for hybrid or fully remote work from various U.S. offices. The ideal candidate will be a talented, experienced individual interested in leadership and contributing to innovative projects from financial and technical evaluation through design, permitting, and construction. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Civil Engineering, Ecology, Planning, or Geospatial Analysis (required)
  • At least 5 years of direct experience managing environmental permitting and planning projects, for a variety of energy-related projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills; Excellent leadership skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Civil Engineering, Ecology, Planning, or Geospatial Analysis (preferred)
  • 7+ years of direct experience managing environmental permitting and planning projects, for a variety of energy-related projects (preferred)
  • Detailed understanding of Virginia State Corporation Commission application processes for electric transmission lines (preferred), North Carolina Public Utilities Commission, Ohio Power Siting Board, or Kentucky Public Utilities Commission.
  • Positive relationships with siting/routing or permitting specialists in utility organizations. (preferred)
  • Experience with public witness testimony and contract negotiations (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a siting and environmental permitting subject matter expert.
  • Work with clients for public involvement programs; attend and participate in open houses, public meetings, and public hearings.
  • Managing and directing routing/siting studies, analyses, and associated reports and state filings.
  • Work collaboratively across the firm with multi-disciplinary teams which could include engineers, attorneys, planners, permitting and environmental specialists, and real estate experts.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
