About The Position

This engineering position will focus primarily on design, study, planning, and support tasks related to the transmission and distribution system at BWL that will require a mix of field and in office work. Typical work includes design of overhead and underground electrical infrastructure, review and analysis of system performance data, plan development for system improvements, and providing support to various resource groups relating to the construction, maintenance, and operation of the T&D system. Responsible for engineering activities related to planning, designing, constructing, operating, maintaining, and ensuring regulatory compliance of the electric transmission and distribution systems. Most projects will involve some or all the following activities: investigations, studies, estimating, economic evaluations, budgeting, scheduling, system protection, designing, drawing development and review, construction and commissioning support, training, and project management. Primary roles in the Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering department include T&D Engineering Design, T&D System Planning, T&D Standards and Materials, and Transmission System Protection and Regulatory Compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Relevant electric transmission or distribution experience; or other equivalent related experience. (Typically, two or more years)
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally
  • Working knowledge of Office 365 applications
  • Predictable and reliable work schedule
  • Comply with all BWL policies and work rules
  • Ability to respond to emergent or unexpected events within the BWL service territory
  • Ability to effectively work in remote and open-office environments
  • Michigan driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Relevant electric transmission or distribution experience; or equivalent related experience. (Typically, four or more years) (For Level III)

  • Mastery of all principal duties and responsibilities thru Engineer I

  • Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment
  • Exercises limited judgement on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
  • Performs basic design/planning/analysis tasks

  • Assigns tasks to and coordinate with technicians or administrative staff
