About The Position

This position is responsible for directing and performing maintenance, construction, and repair activities for the Electric Department. The Line Supervisor directs and assigns lineman in overhead and underground power restoration, distribution, and maintenance and repair jobs and projects, enforcing safety procedures, conferring with customers and utility companies, and resolving problems.

Requirements

• Completion of high school diploma or GED
• Over 3 years of progressively responsible experience as a journey-level line worker including some supervisory experience
• Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance.
• Must possess a valid State of Ohio commercial driver's license
• Completion of Power Lineman courses and certification as Journeyman Lineman
• Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications stated above.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, safe and correct use of heavy equipment, hand and power tools, safety practices and procedures, English grammar and spelling, supervisory principles and practices, project management, agency goals and objectives, agency policies and procedures.
• Skill in word processing, basic computer operation, use of motor vehicles, use or operation of power and hand tools, use of modern office equipment and software, critical thinking, judgment and decision making.
• Ability to deal with a variety of variables within familiar context, add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, complete routine forms, prepare routine correspondence, prepare accurate documentation, communicate effectively, understand technical manuals and/or verbal instructions, read blueprints, develop and maintain effectively working relationships, resolve complaints, train and develop staff, delegate effectively, travel and gain access to work site, perform manual labor, demonstrate professionalism, apply management principles to solve agency problems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, organize, direct, schedule, and assign electric line maintenance, repair, and construction jobs and projects for the City; prioritize work; assign and schedule daily work from work orders; set productivity levels and deadlines for task completion; make staffing decisions; set performance standards.
• Supervise work crews; assess jobs in various locations; discuss proper technical and safety procedures; assist crews and resolve technical problems; enforce safety standards and requirements; inspect projects to ensure proper completion; establish, communicate, and enforce policies and procedures; provide proper training; conduct annual performance evaluations; coordinate and work with sub-contractors and utility companies; respond to emergencies on all shifts.
• Perform duties of line worker when needed; operate bucket and digger trucks, backhoe, forklift, trencher, fault locator, and other light and heavy equipment, power tools, and other vehicles; locate and isolate damaged cable; climb utility poles, handle dangerous, high voltage electrical devices; solve outage problems on all shifts in all types of adverse weather conditions when required.
• Ensure proper equipment and materials are available; monitor vehicles and equipment; ensure proper maintenance and replacement of equipment; locate supplies and parts necessary to perform specific projects.
• Handle service calls and complaints from the public; interact and coordinate regularly with utility companies, sub-contractors, and other agencies; perform follow-up inspection and review of work completed; oversee and inspect work performed by sub-contractors.
• Prepare daily work reports and maintain records; conduct follow-up on projects.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
