About The Position

The Electric Asset Management (EAM) Distribution Planning (DP) team ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric distribution system. This involves providing timely and innovative engineering and technical support for planning, design, construction, and maintenance functions. The EAM DP team is part of the EAM System Planning and Reliability group and is responsible for area and equipment capacity utilization, voltage and power factor support, and the reliability of primary electric distribution systems. This is an entry-level position represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining. The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) at an assigned work location within the PG&E Service Territory, with the remaining days worked remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems) or graduating by June/July 2026 with a BSEE from a college/university program accredited by Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET)

Responsibilities

  • Submit long-term and short-term reconstruction, capacity, and reliability plan recommendations.
  • Manage projects within their local area valued at $100,000 or less.
  • Review and recommend job estimates within DPA for capacity and reliability.
  • Monitor area substation and circuit capabilities and track corresponding loads, preparing proposals for corrective actions to address deficiencies.
  • Perform planning studies to model the electric distribution system and work with Mapping to correct discrepancies in associated records systems.
  • Analyze historical loads and project future growth, preparing long-term and short-term plans to identify and correct area deficiencies.
  • Prepare draft Preliminary Planning Reviews (PPR’s) and identify alternatives for Project Analysis (PA’s).
  • Analyze area distribution systems and take appropriate actions to maintain power factor and primary voltage within established standards.
  • Determine circuit and associated equipment capabilities within the assigned DPA.
  • Prepare and initiate switching plans to alleviate normal and minimize emergency deficiencies.
  • Prepare necessary documentation about distribution needs for estimating to complete job packages.
  • Prepare settings for load tap changers and other line equipment.
  • Review requests for new large customer load additions or voltage increases and recommend actions to correct any deficiencies.
  • Provide direction and review primary designs proposed by estimating to ensure adequate capacity and reliability.
  • Prepare settings for distribution protective devices and perform circuit protection reviews with recommendations for corrections.
  • Determine protection requirements for rule 20, WRO projects, and other major distribution projects impacting the existing protective scheme.
  • Prepare settings for Distribution Automation (DA) devices affecting distribution protection, voltage, or emergency switching.
  • Initiate service dependability solutions and actively participate in local reliability/root cause meetings.
  • Work closely with construction to prioritize outage prevention work within DPA and address customer complaints (Help Tickets) for recurring outages.
  • Prepare initial responses for CPUC complaints for recurring outages.
  • Support local DO’s, DEC, construction, or storm room in emergency restoration efforts as required.
  • Provide technical support for customer voltage complaints caused by primary voltage problems.
  • Address customer EMF requests involving distribution facilities as assigned.
  • Assist E&M and OM&C personnel to address customer voltage complaints caused by secondary voltage problems.
  • Support estimating, construction, and other departments as required.
  • Review, modify, and recommend switching clearances for feeders, banks, and stations as requested by DO’s.
  • Review switching arrangements, equipment settings, voltage levels, and power factor needs to ensure efficient distribution system operation.
  • Prepare EASOP (economic analysis) for projects in DPA.
  • Prepare other engineering analyses as assigned.
  • Provide supervisor on-call support as required.
  • Maintain equipment records as assigned.
