About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Property and Environmental Resources, this position provides accurate, timely, and customer-focused services supporting elections administration. Responsibilities include administering election processes in compliance with Minnesota statutes and delivering front-line customer service. Work involves applying state laws, county policies, and established procedures, with assignments that may vary based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in any of the following areas: elections, financial procedures, auditing, real estate, taxation, office management, or customer service
  • Working experience with computers
  • Must be bondable.
  • Must be eligible to vote in the State of Minnesota.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must comply with all federal and state laws and organizational and departmental policies and regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive within the State of Minnesota or the ability to possess within six (6) weeks from the date of hire.
  • Must adhere to data practices policies and standards regarding non-public data. Access to non-public data must be limited to what is necessary to perform job duties. Employees must take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized access and ensure secure storage of data in accordance with county policies and Minnesota Statutes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an auditor, treasurer, or recorder's office
  • Experience working in elections administration or in an elections center
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Proficient in understanding and speaking languages other than English, such as Spanish, Somali, Chinese, Sudanese, and Arabic, among others.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and updates voter registration and election systems; verify data accuracy; troubleshoot issues; prepare election mailings; respond to voter inquiries.
  • Prepares, provides, and maintains information for the public regarding elections and voter registration procedures, including status information, resolving election issues and presenting statistical information.
  • Organizes in person early voting including but not limited to: outreach, ballot packet preparation, training, and mentoring of peers/election judges.
  • Provides information to election judges, government officials, and voters.
  • Creates forms, brochures, and other materials for print and digital media.
  • Prepares election judge training including the recruitment of judges.
  • Assists with the design, production, and implementation of training materials.
  • Coordinates, inventories, distributes, and maintains election supplies and equipment, including assistive voting devices and tabulators; perform minor equipment updates.
  • Assists with ballot preparation, testing, and proofing; support preparation of election abstracts; verify and report results in state systems; ensure accuracy of required reports.
  • Reviews voting records for potential discrepancies; conduct preliminary investigations and report findings in accordance with policy.
  • Supports candidate filing processes; provide guidance to candidates and local jurisdictions on filing requirements and procedures.
  • Maintains and retains election records in compliance with county policy and state/federal law.
  • Provides front counter and phone customer service; assist internal and external customers; use multiple software systems to complete transactions.
