About The Position

Elections Personnel assists and reports directly to the Elections Administrator in election procedures. This position is responsible in part for the integrity of the election process and equipment and requires a high level of confidentiality, knowledge of industry standards and precision to detail. Employment term correlates with the election cycles. The approved salary range for this position is $18.39 to $27.59 per hour, depending on experience. Our organization values pay equity, and hiring at the top of the range is not typical. Communication updates—including interview scheduling, questions, and position updates—will be send via email. Work hours: A varied schedule during normal business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Limited evening and weekend hours may be required based on the election schedule. Applicants should expect to work 40 hours per week during the month prior to each election. Upcoming 2026 elections are April 14, August 11, and November 3. Outside of these periods, scheduled hours will vary and may range from minimal to no hours depending on operational needs. This is a Part-time position.

Requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, department management, supervisor, election officials and the public.
  • Ability to organize and implement service delivery systems and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, in person and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential records and information.
  • Ability to make sound judgment of sensitive nature.
  • Skilled in assisting and training others with presentations and hands-on demonstrations.
  • Skilled considerably in customer service public relations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to meet any additional qualifications established by the appointing authority.
  • Ability to remain impartial at all times while on duty working on elections.
  • Experience in customer service, election judge and/or city or township clerk or experience in related fields.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Experience with election equipment, including voting tabulation machines and iPads.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to nonpartisanship.
  • Able to communicate clearly with voters.
  • Enjoy assisting and serving diverse populations.
  • Handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Work as a team member and follow directions.
  • Must be eligible to vote in Minnesota.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must complete the mandatory election judge training.
  • Must not be the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling, or stepsibling of any election judge serving in the same precinct or any of the candidates in that election.
  • Must not live, either permanently or temporarily, with any candidate on the ballot at that election.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, test, and tabulate results of election equipment (pre-election quality control).
  • Reconcile testing documentation and create checklists for supervisor review.
  • Assist with proofing of election communication and forms.
  • Prepare and distribute election materials for the election clerks and judges.
  • Perform administrative election functions for the Auditor-Treasurer department, including creating and working with confidential spreadsheets to reconcile election counts.
  • Assist walk in voters in the absentee balloting process.
  • Communicate with voters to successfully complete their ballot process.
  • Assist with conducting trainings for election clerks and judges.
  • Assist in post-election day reporting and canvassing of election results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.
