About The Position

We are looking for a collaborative and energetic Election Protection Organizer to join our Common Cause team in Wisconsin. This is a key role supporting Election Protection work and our ability to build capacity and diversify our audience, volunteer and donor base as we work to engage millions more in our fight to protect and strengthen democracy in advance of upcoming Wisconsin elections in August and November 2026. This role is at the intersection of community and democracy. You will work with various communities across the state to expand our growing membership base through recruitment efforts and by engaging members in our Election Protection program. You will also support our comprehensive Election Protection training and serve as a first point of contact for volunteers and members.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with office productivity tools including Microsoft Office, Slack, and Zoom; and ideally you also have familiarity with data and volunteer management systems (e.g., Airtable, Action Builder, VAN, EveryAction, or similar tools)
  • Experience supporting the growth of membership bases and/or have worked on an issue-based or political campaign
  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year for team and/or all staff retreats
  • Ability to work in-person in the state office or at various locations around the state at least 3 days per week, and up to daily during the peak of our season
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • You must have access to a vehicle to transport election materials (miles driven on official business in your personal vehicle will be reimbursed at the federal mileage rate)
  • Willing to have a social media presence on behalf of Common Cause, including being tagged on posts and creating content on behalf of the organization (as needed, Common Cause may provide accounts for staff members to use)
  • Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, coordination and execution of our statewide Election Protection program in Wisconsin, across In-Person Absentee Voting, Election Day, and post-election periods
  • Assist in building and maintaining a statewide volunteer program and infrastructure, including recruitment, onboarding, and engagement
  • Support deployment of volunteers across priority counties and municipalities of Wisconsin’s 8 congressional districts; especially Northeast Wisconsin coverage
  • Support coordination of volunteers to help ensure adequate volunteer coverage for priority In-Person Absentee Voting sites, polling locations, and post-election observation needs
  • Assist in developing and leading engaging Election Protection trainings for members, volunteers, and community partners
  • Engage in state and/or multi-state campaigns and mobilizations to defend voting rights
  • Support the implementation of systems to manage Common Cause members and volunteers for In-Person Absentee Voting voting and election day, including sign-up and placement of volunteers, calling volunteers to engage or re-engage them
  • Support collection and reporting of data and information from voters, volunteers, partners, election officials, and other sources.
  • Share Election Protection educational materials to our social media pages to engage members and share accurate information about elections
  • Act as a representative of Common Cause in various coalitions, meetings and events
  • Monitor and engage with election officials across counties to discuss voter access and election administration during IPAV, election day, and post-election
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and host community meetings to understand current barriers to voter participation
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with municipal and county clerks and election officials
  • Monitor election administration practices and identify potential barriers to voter access
  • Support communication between community stakeholders and election officials to improve voter education and access
  • Build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, civic engagement groups, and faith-based and grassroots leaders
  • Support trainings for our volunteers on culturally responsive outreach to historically underrepresented communities, including Black, Latino, Native, Asian, immigrant, student, as well as rural voters
  • Maintain accurate and timely tracking systems for volunteer recruitment, training and deployment; incident reports and voter issues; partner engagement and outreach efforts
  • Support the collection, documentation, and escalation of reports related to voter intimidation; hostile or non-compliant poll observers; barriers to voting or election administration challenges
  • Assist in strengthening internal reporting systems and ensuring data is usable for rapid response, communications, and post-election analysis
  • Complete other administrative tasks as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
