About The Position

The Board of Elections is seeking enthusiastic applicants to assist in preparations for the upcoming election. The duties of this position can include processing and picking up mail-in ballots, assisting the public with registration applications, canvassing ballots, preparing carts with election supplies, data entry, answering phones, collecting mail, and sorting and packing supplies. The hours of this position will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with some weekend work and evening hours as the election nears, especially during early voting. During early voting, the successful applicant will be assigned to one of three early vote sites in the County. Performs beginning level general office clerical work in support of unit operations. The work involves learning basic office functions and procedures such as telephone and visitor reception, photocopy machine operation, and other general office clerical tasks. The work requires ability to operate keyboard devices but no experience. The work is performed under close to general supervision of administrative staff or higher graded office staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent, including or supplemented by courses in keyboard operation.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and assists visitors to the office; queries visitors and directs them to appropriate staff or offices.
  • Receives, screens, and refers telephone calls; queries callers and transfers or refers calls to appropriate staff or other offices.
  • Receives and routes mail; directs items to other staff or County offices as appropriate.
  • Maintains staff personnel files to include in-service training for police and correction of three counties.
  • Processes information by keying data into computer databases and other computerized record systems.
  • Verifies information on billings and other documents.
  • Produces a variety of word processed documents such as letters, memoranda, and reports; proofs and edits materials for accuracy of grammar, spelling, punctuation and format and makes corrections.
  • Operates copying machine or other office appliances not requiring previous specialized training.
  • Performs a variety of routine office functions.
  • Performs related work as required.
