The Elder Abuse & Medical Malpractice Litigation Paralegal is an integral member of our litigation team and will support attorneys through every phase of litigation, from the initial filing of a lawsuit through trial, settlement, or appeal. This position requires a highly organized professional with extensive experience reviewing and organizing medical records, managing litigation deadlines, preparing discovery, coordinating expert witnesses, and assisting with trial preparation. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple complex matters while maintaining the highest level of professionalism.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of Plaintiff litigation paralegal experience.
  • Experience handling Elder Abuse, Medical Malpractice, Catastrophic Injury, or complex civil litigation matters.
  • Strong understanding of California Code of Civil Procedure and litigation deadlines.
  • Experience reviewing and organizing large volumes of medical records.
  • Experience drafting discovery and litigation documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-value litigation matters simultaneously.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • Trial experience.
  • Experience using Litify or Salesforce-based case management software.
  • Experience with e-filing in California State and Federal Courts.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex litigation caseload from inception through trial.
  • Maintain complete and organized electronic and physical case files.
  • Track litigation deadlines, court dates, discovery deadlines, and trial schedules.
  • Coordinate with attorneys to ensure timely completion of litigation tasks.
  • Maintain litigation calendars and proactively monitor case progress.
  • Obtain, organize, review, and summarize extensive medical records.
  • Prepare detailed medical chronologies and treatment summaries.
  • Analyze hospital, physician, rehabilitation, nursing home, assisted living, hospice, and skilled nursing facility records.
  • Identify significant liability, causation, damages, and standard of care issues.
  • Organize records for attorney review, expert analysis, mediation, and trial.
  • Draft interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, subpoenas, deposition notices, and meet-and-confer correspondence.
  • Prepare responses to written discovery.
  • Coordinate document production.
  • Organize exhibits and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all discovery deadlines.
  • Prepare pleadings, motions, trial documents, and legal correspondence.
  • Coordinate electronic court filings and service of process.
  • Schedule hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and expert examinations.
  • Prepare hearing binders, mediation binders, and trial notebooks.
  • Assist attorneys during trial, arbitration, and mediation proceedings.
  • Coordinate with physicians, nurses, life care planners, economists, forensic experts, and other retained experts.
  • Schedule expert consultations, depositions, and testimony.
  • Prepare and organize records and supporting materials for expert review.
  • Assist with expert disclosures and expert file management.
  • Review and analyze healthcare records for potential breaches of the applicable standard of care.
  • Assist attorneys in identifying negligence, causation, and damages issues.
  • Organize evidence involving pressure injuries, falls, medication errors, sepsis, dehydration, malnutrition, infections, delayed diagnosis, surgical complications, wrongful death, neglect, and abuse.
  • Coordinate the collection of facility policies, staffing records, incident reports, licensing records, and regulatory documentation.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and their families.
  • Obtain updated treatment information and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to client inquiries with professionalism, compassion, and empathy.
  • Ensure clients remain informed regarding the progress of their case.
  • Prepare comprehensive trial notebooks and exhibit binders.
  • Organize witness files and deposition summaries.
  • Coordinate trial exhibits and demonstrative evidence.
  • Assist attorneys during trial preparation and courtroom proceedings.
  • Support the litigation team throughout all phases of trial.
