About The Position

The Immigrant and Refugee Center of Northern Colorado (IRCNoCo) is seeking an ELA Instructor to guide students in integration and empowerment through language acquisition. This role involves teaching productive and receptive language skills, cultural, life, and digital literacy skills, following CASAS standards. The instructor must be able to scaffold and differentiate instruction for a diverse range of adult learners and adapt to the needs of each unique class. The position utilizes technology in the classroom for twenty-first century learning. Instructors will welcome new students throughout the term, assess their needs, and help guide them toward their learning goals. The position is structured around three teaching terms: Spring (January-May), Summer (May-August), and Fall (August-December), with approximately 20 hours per week during teaching terms, depending on class schedules. Employees must reside within the United States during teaching terms. Daytime and night class hours are required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or similar field or the equivalent in work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Google Suite (instruction and data collection) and Zoom (instruction).
  • Must reside within the United States of America during the teaching terms.

Nice To Haves

  • TESOL and/or ABE certification
  • 2+ years of teaching experience
  • Proficient in Google Suite including Google Classroom
  • Experience teaching on Zoom
  • Those with degrees, certifications and experience obtained outside of the U.S., that may not meet the U.S. education system requirements, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and prepare classes, including developing detailed lesson plans.
  • Develop learning materials that support leveled learning objectives and planned activities.
  • Instruct groups of up to 28 students using a variety of active and engaging teaching strategies/learning activities and student assessment methods.
  • Manage in-person or online classrooms effectively creating an environment of respect and inclusion with and between teachers, classroom volunteers and students.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in meeting IRCNoCo’s needs and students’ changing requirements as conditions may require over time.
  • Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly data collection including but not limited to: attendance tracking and student growth.
  • Participation in weekly and monthly staff meetings.
  • Regularly participate in instructor's professional and collaborative learning community regardless of instructional hours hired to teach.
