About The Position

The primary role of an ELA teacher is responsible for teaching language skills to their students, including the basics like reading, writing, and speaking. This role involves helping students develop their writing, reading comprehension, and listening and speaking skills, utilizing creative skills to keep students engaged in lessons. The ELA Instructor will plan and implement class lessons that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and specific grade-by-grade learning standards, with a strong knowledge of Tier 1 Curriculum. Upholding the mission and values of Community Academies of New Orleans is crucial in all student and family interactions to promote academic excellence and success. The role also includes planning and coordinating programs with faculty and administration, providing ongoing student evaluation through regularly scheduled grade reporting and parent conferences, and establishing and building great rapport with students to provide a great and exciting learning environment. Accepting and incorporating feedback and coaching from administrative staff, actively participating in strategic long- and short-term planning addressing individual student needs, preparing students adequately for all required assessments, and engaging in effective and appropriate classroom management are also key responsibilities. The instructor must remain current on ongoing developments and requirements from the Louisiana Department of Education relative to school accountability, assessment, and curriculum.

Bachelor’s degree (required)
Strong classroom management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to participate in professional development and instructional best practices
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday.
Able to occasionally move about inside the office and school building to meetings and other assigned duties
Occasionally ascend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
Fully vaccinated and provide proof of the COVID-19 vaccination within 30 days of the date of hire.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree (preferred)
Two or more years of ELA teaching experience (preferred)
Louisiana State Certification (preferred)
Strong knowledge of Tier 1 Curriculum
