About The Position

The English Learner Specialist will oversee and provide support for the English Learner Program. This role involves engaging in AZELLA Trainings, providing professional development for teachers, and working with the School Testing Coordinator to create and implement a schedule for English language instruction. The specialist will service students during their English language development time, provide EL tutoring, and track student English acquisition progress. The position is located in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field.
  • ESL, Bilingual, or SEI Endorsement.
  • Teaching license required.
  • Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Positively interact with all students.
  • Create a safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Capable of designing lesson plans to meet student needs and school & state requirements.
  • Able to employ varied teaching strategies and best practices that effectively teach the curriculum.
  • Ability to identify individual student needs.
  • Good communication skills with students, coworkers, administration, and parents.
  • Ability to collaborate with other teachers and school staff.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the teaching profession by utilizing resources for professional development, therefore, improving the education that is provided.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and provide support for the English Learner Program.
  • Engage in all AZELLA Trainings that pertain to testing, test interpretation, differentiated instruction, professional development for teachers, etc.
  • Provide professional development for teachers with EL students.
  • Work with the School Testing Coordinator (STC) to create and implement a schedule to pull out students for English language instruction.
  • Service students during their English language development time.
  • Provide EL tutoring before or after school.
  • Track student English acquisition progress.
  • Supports students who require English acquisition instruction.
  • Assists administrators, teachers, and school staff in implementing and monitoring a comprehensive EL program.
  • Collects and maintains appropriate records of student progress and provides timely and accurate oral and written feedback to teachers, school staff, students, and parents.
  • Uses a variety of data to evaluate the abilities and disabilities of students and works independently and with classroom teachers and school staff to adjust their instruction to meet the needs of EL students.
  • Serves as a member of the school data team to design, implement, and monitor the school EL plan.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to positive, effective instruction.
  • Facilitates instruction based on current research-based best practices in English acquisition.
  • Uses district and state assessment data to improve instruction.
  • Provides individual diagnostic testing to assess student needs.
  • Participates in team reviews concerning the academic progress of at-risk students (MTSS).
  • Attends scheduled meetings and parent conferences as needed.
  • Communicates objectives to students in a well-planned, organized manner using clear and precise language.
  • Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, students, parents, and the community in a positive, professional, and ethical manner.
  • Assumes individual responsibilities that may be assigned by the principal/supervisor and which may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision or other planning and professional assignments.
  • Completes and maintains any required certification.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of logs, reports, files, reviews, etc.
  • Follows District Policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
