About The Position

As a member of the Health Care Team, performs all of the varied types of electrocardiograms on infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. All employees must always adhere to the following: Employee is expected to adhere to UTMC Service Values always including iCare standards. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues. Adheres to NPSG 09.02.01 by following the Morse Fall Scale to assess all patients for their risk of falling. Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when going from one patient to the next. Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately. Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees. Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment. Recognizes Frayed Cord: Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner. Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken. Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and the employee. Recognize exposure to Blood: Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment. Safety concerns: The manager has been timely with staff training and education. Wiping up spills. Follows standardized approach for handoff communication. Follows policy for communication including the opportunity to ask and respond to questions.

Requirements

  • Completion of first year of Cardiovascular Technology schooling with completion of EKG externship
  • Working toward or completion of associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology
  • Registry eligibility in Cardiovascular Technology
  • Registered Cardiovascular Technologist
  • Minimum of 3 months actual work experience in the performance of EKGs
  • Must be able to perform an EKG as part of an interview process for job.
  • AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider course as identified by the Heart and Vascular Center/Cardiology Clinic policy.
  • Must be able to visualize an EKG tracing on a computer screen and on paper.
  • Must be able to transport EKG machine to the bedside and to properly place electrodes.
  • Must be capable of using computer keyboard to access the EKG storage and retrieval system.
  • Ability to communicate clearly for patients understanding.
