About The Position

This is a PRN EKG tech position for all shifts and weekends within the Cardiovascular Diagnostics department at Advocate Christ Medical Center. The role involves performing 12 Lead EKGs and other non-invasive cardiovascular testing, ensuring accurate results for cardiologist interpretation. Additionally, the position requires technical patient preparation for Holter and event monitoring, non-clinical duties related to EKG data management, equipment maintenance, and processing of completed reports. The role also includes routine HIS functions and maintaining documentation for performance improvement monitors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 6 months to 1 year previous EKG/ healthcare experience or completion of an EKG certificate program with a clinical internship.
  • Good oral and written Communications skills.
  • Ability to perform blood Pressure readings and Identify cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Certified by NCCT as a NCET, or an Equivalent certification within 1 year of employment.
  • CPR/BLS certified.
  • CPR and BLS Certified within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to lift and or move patients.
  • Ability to work under Stressful conditions and in difficult situations.
  • Ability to stoop, bend and stand for extended periods of time.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases.
  • Must be able to recognize the needs and behaviors of age groups of patients treated.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
  • Certification not required if the associate has completed a Bachelor or Master's degree in Exercise science/exercise Physiology with course work in EKG.

Responsibilities

  • Performing 12 Lead EKGs and other non-invasive cardiovascular testing.
  • Ensuring accurate results from computerized electrocardiograms for cardiologist interpretation.
  • Administering 12 lead-computerized electrocardiograms to uncovered areas as needed.
  • Identifying and reporting severe electrocardiographic abnormalities.
  • Promoting patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Performing technical patient preparation for 24-hour Holter monitoring and event monitors.
  • Providing patients with adequate instructions on the use of arrhythmia monitors.
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date patient files and department logs.
  • Performing routine computer functions for EKG management system, including backups.
  • Maintaining proper functioning of equipment and troubleshooting when appropriate.
  • Maintaining work area in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
  • Processing completed reports in accordance with established departmental procedures.
  • Performing routine HIS functions (i.e. ordering, charging, crediting etc…)
  • Maintaining updated, accurate documentation of Performance Improvement monitors.
