About The Position

The EKG-EEG Tech is primarily responsible for performing EKGs on inpatient and outpatients throughout the hospital and the Emergency Department (ED). The Tech also performs EEGs on both inpatients and outpatients for the Cardiopulmonary department. This role requires competence in performing EEGs, setting up EMU patients, monitoring, and troubleshooting EMU EEGs. The Tech retrieves pertinent patient information from charts, documents findings, and communicates with ordering physicians regarding patient compliance and study completion. Critical EKG results are reported promptly, and EKGs are documented accurately in the medical record. The role involves managing the Muse system for EKGs, including editing, routing, transmitting, and ensuring timely cardiologist review. Additionally, the Tech transmits EKGs to outside facilities, troubleshoots transmission issues, attends department meetings, and ensures the stocking and distribution of oxygen tanks, contacting Airgas for facility issues. The position requires the ability to work well with co-workers and customers, strong motivational and organizational skills, excellent communication skills, basic computer knowledge, the ability to respond to emergencies, and explain procedures to patients and families.

Requirements

High school diploma (or Equivalent Certificate from an accredited program) or higher degree
EKG interpretation class within two (2) months of start date
Ability to work well with co-workers and customers
Strong motivational and organizational skills
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Basic computer knowledge and experience
Must be able to quickly assess and respond to emergency situations
Ability to explain procedures to patient and family members
Understanding and interpreting EEG/EKG’s

Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within fourteen (14) calendar days of start date

Responsibilities

Performing EKGs on inpatient and outpatients throughout the hospital and Emergency Department.
Performing EEGs on inpatients and outpatients for the Cardiopulmonary department.
Setting up EMU patients, monitoring, and troubleshooting EMU EEGs.
Retrieving pertinent patient information from charts and documenting it in the patient's test record.
Contacting ordering physicians for non-compliant patients, study completion, and pertinent questions.
Performing EKGs and reporting critical results.
Completing Stat EKGs and documenting time, date, and physician receiving results.
Monitoring the Muse system: editing, routing, or transmitting unconfirmed EKGs, confirming orders, and ensuring timely EKG reads.
Troubleshooting the MUSE database and issues with CRMC’s IT department.
Transmitting EKGs to appropriate outside facilities and troubleshooting transmission issues.
Attending 80% of department meetings.
Ensuring complete stocking of oxygen tanks throughout the hospital and confirming proper dispersal.
Contacting Airgas with any facility issues relating to their service.
